Location, although did not stay long enough to appreciate the surroundings. Bistro excellent value and ambience. the attention from the staff. the relaxing location. The staff were very freindly and helpful, the setting is stunning and the room was very comfortable i would deffinatley stay there again and reccommend it to anyone.The indoor pool and steam room. Minor thing, no hooks in bathroom and access to one bedroom outside through fire doors, difficulty with key to open outer doors. bit of a mix up with the menu that reception said was available and it was different in the restaurant. cheap sausages for breakfast. Cobwebs in room on arrival still there on departure. Room was notcleaned till later on one occassion. Leaves and dirt on hallway carpetnot cleaned during my stay. the bar restaurant was quite noisy and we were surprised and disappointed to find the prices were the same as the Georgian restaurant but the food choice wasn't as good. Cold Breakfast on both days. Small choice on restaurant menu. it was over an hour before our room was ready. We couldn't book a meal in the restaurant or bistro, even though we were told that we only had to book in the restaurant, both were fully booked. The Health and Beauty, we were not told we had to book anything before we arrived, as everything was fully booked for the whole week, there should be a preference for people staying at the hotel. The hut at the golf was shut on our first day. There was no fridge in the room.receiption. i have called for direction many times no person answering phones. Drinks were very expensive i.e. 11.50 for a glass of wine and a pint of beer, buffet cooked breakfast a bit hit and miss.the service was slow and the breakfast did not match the quality of the hotel. Had to change rooms, due to first having a room with an adjoining door to next room and no view. but staff did arrange different room for rest of stay. I was not impressed with the indoor swimming pool. On first morning breakfast was warm/cold and we had limited hot food.Same spoon to serve baked beans and egg!. the food was very poor and we waited an hour for it. absolutely would not eat again at the hotel. A bit short on the bath room facilities ie only one small soap between two persons and items used were not replaced the following day.Service was sometimes slow. hard to find getting wet walking to hotel room. We stayed 2 nights, the breakfast was a bit disappointing first morning but excellent 2nd morning. The food was average. The service in the dining room was slow and resulted in cold food being served. It seemed strange that you could not access the swimming poll from the bedroom block as the door was locked. This meant that you had to go outside to the club reception in robes. As it rained heavily throuhgout our stay, we decided against this. Warm white wine, screw top bottle. Lack of ease of access - via fire escape and up several stairs which was very difficult. Shower lacked power and bathroom fan not working. The food in the restaurant seemed overpriced.The service at breakfast on the saturday morning was atrocious. I have already filled in a review form with the hotel which highlights all my concerns. We were initially put in a cheaper (and somewhat grubby) room. Thankfully we had the gumption to complain and the mistake was corrected.I didn't think it was 4 stars, the restaurant menu was poor, the room didn't get cleaned on the second day, I had to ask for toilet papers and toiletires, the tissue box was empty from the first day until we left, mineral water was never porvided although I told the receptionist the day we arrived. Service was not brilliant - room service slow and inaccurate. the tea at breakfast was served from a pump pot rather than indivdual teapots so that was very disappointing as the taste and quality were poor. the breakfast experience was not four star, hardly two star and the dining room is only open on Friday and Saturday night, the bistro area suitable for a quick lunch was not suitable for a so called four star dining experience.The cooked breakfast took 20 minutes to arrive and DIY toast in the foyer was cheap. We stayed two nights, on the second day we returned to our room at 4:00 in the afternoon and it had not been cleaned. We were lying on the bed watching TV at 4:30 and a guy just unlocks the door and walks in announcing he was there to clean it. Very poor. Overpriced. I noticed a genral lack of care. there were disgarded hospitality trays in the corridors that were not moved throughout the whole of my stay including a tray with empty champayne bottles that was left out on the fire exit pathway. The bar glasses were stained and the glassware on the breakfast table was also unpolished. I ordered a bar snack and was informed that this would take about 45 minutes.

Travelling information

North: Leave the m4 at Junction 18, taking the a46 towards Bath. After ten miles exit the dual carriageway following signs to Bath City Centre. At the immediate roundabout take the third exit (right) still towards the city centre. Continue straight on for two miles, through four sets of traffic lights. After you pass Morrisions supermarket on the left, (at the fifth set of lights), get into the left lane and turn left. Cross over the river, passing the fire station and at the lights. Turn right along Sydney Place, passing the Holbourne Museum of Art on your left. At the next large roundabout take the first exit (left). Follow this road up Bathwick Hill and out of Bath for one mile, passing the University. Continue for another mile and half, crossing a small roundabout, Combe Grove Manor is the left, two hundred yards after Ralph Allen School. South: Take the A36 from Warminster heading towards Bath. When you reach the Limpley Stoke Viaduct and traffic light, turn left immediately after the Viaduct Pub. Continue up Brassknocker Hill for 1 mile. Do not turn off in to Monkton Combe; Barceló Combe Grove Manor is on the left half way up the hill opposite a row of cottages.
