The check in at the hotel was poor, but this was due to Booking.Com actually stating that my reservation was for the previous month, and our details could not be found on the system. Because of this we had to prove that we had actually pre-paid for the accommodation!. Lighting in room was inadequate. Dinner menu did not change over the two nights we were there. Menu might be a little limited if staying more that 2/3 nights. Because of the location, there are no small 'pubs' within walking distance so the hotelto us was important for food.staff not very friendly. Prices of drinks. The lighting in the bedrooms was too low,consequently working in the room was difficult. Breakfast not as good as in other hotels that I have been in, cold toast, asked for soya milk but nobody got back to me about it. For the 4 star status attention to details could have been a little better. eg sticky tables where drinks have been, food on floor in the 2 rossette restaurant left from the night before.Room heater not working - free-standing heater in place, but should have been sorted out before assigning the room - there were plenty of others empty. The snacks in the Terrace Bar fell a long way short of the standard of the restaurant - stale crisps, dry leaves and no bread with soup. The main bar would have been more attractive if the open fire had been used. The breakfasts were not good because they had stood too long and no refills were given for tea/coffee.The heating didn't work in our room so we were given a portble heater, The table wasn't set correctly with cutlery, napkins or glasses on both occasions we visited it. We weren't offered a drink or a winelist when we arrived at the table and there wasn't a clean table for breakfast. The staff eventually cleared one while we were seated at it. This is a comment which I could level at many of the good class hotels in which I have stayed in recent times. There appears to be a lack of maintenance in respect of the rooms. On this occasion we found a bulb missing in one of the lamps in the room. Had to be reported twice before it was attended to. A roof light over the mirror in the bath was out and the porter could not find bulb.no,but maybe there could be a few simpler meals offered at dinner. Bar food very poorly presented for hotel of this level-burger served with no salad or side vegetables, just thrown on to plate-disappointing-would pay the discounted price again but perhaps not full price.We waited an hour between starter and main course on Friday evening so ate out the following night. Staff think they own the hotel and are not approachable. Hotel could be cleaner. Dirty towle in the room and carpets are like the dogs bed!. At breakfast we had to keep asking for things that had ran out. We stayed for 3 days and there was something missing every morning. On our arrival we did not like the evening menu it did not change for the three days we were there, so we found a wonderful pub at Shipton. The room needs a brighter light for putting on makeup. The room was tatty, the plumbing could have been better.I did not like the Terrace bar and thought it could have been much nicer as it was a super position and not enough was made of it. We reserved 2 rooms,as a family, which were far to far apart for comfort, and despite calling to ensure we had rooms near each other this was not achieved. The food in the restaurant was good, but the evening service was very poor to say the least. On our last night my children waited 45 minutes to get their drinks. Simple attention to detail would have made our stay excellent. Lack of attention to detail around the hotel. Sligft feeling of complacency amongst the staff. Reception area requires upgrading. breakfast set up was not he best. access to the facilities was not as good as we had been led to believe The room service was particularly inadequate. I realised we had no toothpaste their was none at the hotel and I was offered no alternative. Due to location I didn't know where we could go to get some. Also I am 7 months pregnant and I couldn't find my partner who had the key and wanted to get into our room, when I asked if someone could let me in I was told there was no key so the answer was no. Missing handles in room on furniture in room.no heating working in 2 bedrooms staff seemed unconcerned spent an extremely uncmfortable night very cold not acceptable heating not working in 2 different rooms not very professional attitude towards client. the service, the fact that everything was fully booked or out of order.

Exit the A1 at junction 47. Follow the A59 towards York. After 3 miles, turn left onto the B6265 and follow brown Aldwark Manor signs. After 2.7 miles, you will reach an intersection at Little Ouseburn, turn right following the brown signs. After 0.3 miles, you will reach a t junction, turn left. After crossing a hump back bridge, turn right. At the toll bridge, 40 pence is required to cross. Once across, after 100 yards, turn left and proceed for approximately 1/4 mile. The entrance to Aldwark Manor is on the right hand side.
