Built in 1881, the family-run Hotel Alpenrose is the oldest hotel in the car-free Wengen, which is only reachable by train, and offers you completely renovated rooms in a traditional Alpine style and free WiFi. The Alpenrose hotel is situated in the calmer lower part of the village with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and the Lauterbrunnental valley. It has a charming garden and is an ideal base for excursions in the Jungfrau Region. Half-board includes a 5-course dinner with a vegetarian option.

So where do I began... I was greeted by Orsala, a 4th or 5th generation swiss resident and owner of the hotel. She was pleasant, friendly and helpful. The staff rotated around between concerige and wait staff. But no matter where they were, they would always greet you with a smile and a good morning. The dinner experience was surpurb. I have the distinct impression they applied reserved seating to align u with people u could associate with. This may be problematic for some who wish to select th.

The walk to the hotel is a little long, so if your not up to the walk they also have a hotel valet or a taxi to take you to the hotel. The room was very comfortable, nice size bathroom with good tub/shower, and wash clothes which most European hotels do not have. The lounge in the hotel lobby had nice, comfortable furnishings, and was a great place to unwind with a drink before or after dinner. The breakfast included with the room price . The location was in chalet Erika- the triple room option at Hotel Alpenrose. Ab-so-lute-ly breathtaking views of the mountains from our balcony!!! The decor was older and very modest and could have had much better light for reading. We were there two nights and never once were able to get the wi-Fi to work. They said they were having problems and were very apologetic but it was hard to check on train connections. Oh well- we were" unplugged" for 48 hours and had a great stay despite the poor li. The Alpenrose Wengen was an unbelievably beautiful hotel in a heavenly location. As we walked down the hill from the Wengen train station and rounded the corner where the hotel was,we were speechless by the scenery! We felt we chose the best hotel in the valley! We came for a couples retreat with two friends only for one night. The hotel is beautiful with amazing wooden 19th century design, very cozy. The view from the hotel is spectacular! Nothing. The bed was not that comfortable to me but then the beds in Europe are a bit hard for my taste, the lighting in the room could be improved, otherwise we found it to be a perfect hotel. Nothing. the mattress was too hard for me. Pillows. My room is facing the backyard and is very dark even during the day. there should be some bed tea arrangement, may be centralized and self-service type. The whole experience was great, no complaints at all. It's a tired property, the beds are not very comfortable, the furniture is Edwardian (I suppose that is part of the charm) and some aspects are peculiar, for example, a king-bedded room is just two twin beds pushed together. It has the feel of an old folks home and guests to boot.

Please note that Wengen is a car-free village. You can reach Wengen only by train. Park your car at the Lauterbrunnen station and take the train to Wengen. The train ride to Wengen takes approximately 20 minutes. Please inform the hotel about your arrival time in order to be picked up from the Wengen train station. Transfers from the hotel to and from the station are offered between 07:00 and 19:00, upon prior request.
