The hotel was in very close proximity to the rock so you could walk to the rock to climb and to the museum,the rooms were spacious and very comfortable. Having the pool was excellent for just relaxing with some down time. We hired some bikes and road around the local country lanes. The staff were very efficient and helped to organise our onward journey. Close to Jungle. Many monkeys, iguanas & giant squirrels running around while eating, relaxing. Nearby to 2 World Heritage sites Sigirya Rock Fortress( can be seen from hotel) & Dambulla Cave Temple. Definitely worth seeing. Reasonably priced. Also on way to Sigiriya before Dambulla are Spice Gardens.
all reviews » The grounds are fantastic - lush greenery and lovely pool. Great place to unwind after a walk up Sigiriya. The location is also ideal - short walk down to sigiriya itself, or the restaurants on the main road. I will keep coming back to Sigiriya Village. Lovely setting with a view of Sigiriya, and wildlife around: a little group of monkeys with babies, turtles in the pond at front of hotel. Attractive swimming pool too, which is very welcome after climbing Sigiriya rock in the heat. Very close to the rock. Lovely garden surrounds with Monkeys and Monitor Lizards roaming the grounds. Beautifully designed hotel. Pool has beautiful views of the rock. Good value buffets at night. Buffet and breakfasts, close proximity to the rock fortress friendly staff . Great for nature lovers as snakes and monkeys are very friendly. No food outside your rooms and keep your bags sipped. A great location, very close to Sigiriya Rock. The food was tasty but cold curries and cold eggs are not really what you are paying for. It could be easily rectified. It wasn't just a one off as we were there for several days. Also the staff even though helpful were a little stiff and formal rather than friendly. Tennis court could do with an overhaul. Staff very friendly, though slow to get orders (common to all of Sri Lanka, one has to put up with it, don't be in a hurry). letsbookhotel.com didn't print that 3 adults were coming, and even though I had a print out for 2 rooms (one at $160 for a couple and one at $110 for a single), the hotel staff charged me extra. I tried to explain to the staff that this was an error as I clearly booked a 2 person and a 1 person room, at significantly different prices, they weren't willing to listen. Ants in the Bathroom. (But there was also a tiny frog eating them and keeping the numbers down!) Too many waiters standing around doing nothing, while clearly not enough staff in the kitchen. Service was slow. Staff were very friendly but not great at adding up bills. Had three phone calls after leaving about settling unpaid bills - because they hadn't added up their numbers correctly. They were reasonable and waited until we got back to the uk, just not something you want if you are travelling around Sri Lanka and trying to relax. Quite isolated. The hotel is big enough to cater for several big groups at a time. Bit out of the way roads to the hotel are scary but then again all the roads in sri lanka are scary. Nothing. Two easilly fixed issues: 1) limited wine list out of season and 2) easier for tourists if the front desk staff speak English. overeagerness to clear away plates after eating. There was a smell of humidity inside the room. There is no WiFi Internet connection in the rooms. only found in the lobby which is far from the room.. Too expensive and be aware there is around 26% of vat to add to the price displayed by booking. The hotel seems rather run-down compared to what I remember it as being 2 or 3 years ago. Sheets, curtains need replacement. Coffee/Tea & water heater are needed in the room. Bidet facilities needed. They had not read the reservation and did not have two beds as requested. Then they tried to charge an extra $10. per night and an additional $40 because they said that you had undercharged on the reservation. The buffet(s) were mediocre and obviously calculated to be as low cost to the hotel as possible. Food was not of good quality and selection very limited. Rooms are good size but very tired. No tea pot, poor quality toiletries, the body lotion smells like used cooking oil. Tv system no good. Other than the young guy at the bar and the older managers the staff appear lost. Some of the young men gawk and stare, acting rude as if they have never seen a good looking lady before. The food is terrifying, the worst hotel food on our four week trip. Bed linen/room furniture/bathroom is really old and not been refurbished for years and feels really old and run down. Need to re-decorate the rooms with new furniture/amenities this hotel has great potential. Restaurant staff were very slow, up to an hour wait, not helpful. Reception experience was very disappointing. Rooms desperately need renovating, fixtures are very worn out & air/con only just worked. Reception staff rude and argumentative. AC faulty. Rooms basic and dated - more suited to a backpacker. Food was barely edible - unscaled fish curry was awful. Taxes on food and beverages applied twice contrary to menu prices.
