Situated in the small village of Sabie and surrounded by unspoiled forests, mountain streams and waterfalls, Lone Creek River Lodge features 2 freshwater pools, a restaurant and a wine cellar. Beamed ceilings, chandeliers and wooden furniture decorate most accommodations at Lone Creek River Lodge. The cottages also include a fully equipped kitchen. Breakfast and dinner is served upon request in the Lone Creek’s restaurant. A number of activities in the surrounding area ranges from hiking, mountain biking, horse riding and fly-fishing. The Kruger National Park and Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport is 1 hours' drive from the lodge.

We booked a 'B' cottage but were pleased to be upgraded to an 'A' cottage which was spacious with very good self-catering facilities and a comfortable bed. The surrounding gardens have lovely flowering trees. The cleanliness was amazing, and the friendly staff. we had an unbelievable good stay and enjoyed every minute of it.
all reviews The tranquil environment. The interior of the cabins and cleanliness, especially the clean linen is above average. Of course the fire place was a great comfort. Even the exterior with the pool area is beautiful and clean. It was clean and very tidy. The schenery was beautiful. Sabie is central to all the sightseeing that one wants to do in Mpumalanga. Gardens and layout pretty. The swimming pool was very cold and there was an unpleasant smell from the drains in the bathroom. The road to the hotel is rough. We were not warned about the noise from the units above before payment for our booking was confirmed. With that as the only negative for this accommodation, fixing this should be made an priority as I won't book this accommodation again with that as the only reason. Noise on upper unit. The wooden logdes is VERY noisy when you stay at the bottom. Every movement the people on top of you make is amplified and it's really very disturbing. The guard was a bit irrtating and only came to 'chat' because he obviously wanted money/tips. The bathroom was mouldy, weird stuff was in the shower every morning that obviously fell from the ceiling. The fridge did not work for the first 2 days, 2 of the bulbs did not work. Not worth the money - at all. Booked for 3 nights stayed for 2. Room extremely noisy at night when up stairs guests move around or go to the toilet etc. Road that passes through lodge load and busy. Went for a swim in the rock pool which was slimmy with algae and had a stagnant smell to it. Generally a really poor experience which I will not be repeating. Could have stayed at a host of other places for the same cost which I did on the last night in Sabie which proved to be far better.

Travelling information

From Pretoria or Johannesburg: take the N4/N12 towards Witbank and continue past Middelburg to the Belfast turn-off. If the weather is good, turn-off into Belfast and continue with the R540 through Dullstroom and Lydenburg, and then with the R37 via the Long Tom Pass to Sabie. If it is a rainy day with low-hanging cloud-cover or mist, continue with the N4 past Machadodorp and Waterval Boven, or take the alternative N4 route via Schoemans Kloof. Turn left on the R539 (signposted Sabie and Sudwala). Turn-off right just before Sudwala Caves and continue with the R539 to the R37 T-junction. Turn left onto the R37 and then right at the next T-junction, 10 km from Sabie.
