The location was perfect for us - in the town and in walking distance to shops and recommended restaurants. The room was lovely with an outlook onto the garden. Staff were very friendly and helpful, gave us suggestions on what we could do in our very limited time in Franshhoek ( we only stayed one night). Breakfast was great even tried hard to get me gluten free food etc.This was definitely a place we will come back to for a longer stay next time we're in South Africa so we can explore the area.
all reviews We were looked after by James and Pat who were both very friendly and helpful. On arrival we were given an upgraded room which was very clean and tidy with a very large bed! The house was very interesting with an old colonial feel. It is in a secluded spot, very peaceful but within easy walking distance to the town which is very beautiful. This is a wonderful guest house - in actual fact we think a boutique hotel right in the centre of Franschhoek, almost next door to the Quartier Francais / a 200 meter walk to the Huguenot Monument. James and Pat made us feel so welcome and went out of their way with every request - to include finding us a driver to take us on a wine tour at the very last minute!! This is an exceptional place to stay and we wouldn't think of staying anywhere else in Franschhoek. Maison Chablis was in a perfect and secure location to explore the beautiful village of Franschhoek. James, the owner, provided us with all the information we needed to enjoy the area and was helpful in recommending and booking local restaurants. We particularly loved the pool and garden where we relaxed at the end of the day. We would definitely return. The welcome was friendly, and the place is just right. Location is fabulous, and the building fits in with the Franschhoek ambience. Tastfully decorated. The owner was helpful and knowledgeable. He recommended a Restaurant within walking distance, which was a gourmet experience. This was one of the highlights of our trip to the Cape. We cannot fault this Guesthouse. The owner and staff were very hospitable and made us feel very welcome. The pool is great to sit around and relax on an afternoon. We just wish we had the time to stay more than one night as the accommodation and Franschhoek itself are fabulous places. If we return to SA we will return to both. The attention to detail was awesome, every possible comfort had been thought of. Each room has its own veranda complete with a table and chairs overlooking a perfectly manicured garden. James the owner of the guesthouse is incredibly friendly and helpful. The rooms were gorgeous and it's only a stone throw away from le Quatier Francais (africa's no 1 restaurant and in the top 50 in the world!) I will definitely stay here again if I am in the area!. This was a very good and comfortable stay.All staff and the owner were helpful and welcoming.the room was extremely comfortable and breakfast was good and plentiful. Some sort of strange electronic rubbish masquerading as music. Quiet classical or jazz, or even Frank Sinatra, or good folk, would have done the setting more justice. Parking. Nothing. The stairs outside our room leading to the breakfast room. If booking make sure you book a downstairs room which were very nice.

From Cape Town International Airport: Take the N2 - Somerset West. Turn off onto the R310 (Baden Powell) into Stellenbosch. Continue on the R310 through Stellenbosch, and head over the Helshoogte pass, thereafter going through Pniel town. Turn right onto the R45 and continue through Franschhoek up to the Huguenot Monument Turn right at Berg Street, continue across Wilhemina Street. Maison Chablis is on your left. From Cape Town: Take the N1 to Paarl. Take the R45 (Klapmuts) off-ramp and continue to the Franschhoek turn off. Continue on the R45 past various wine estates to the right turn to Franschhoek (remain on the R45) Continue through Franschhoek up to the Huguenot Monument Turn right at Berg Street, continue across Wilhemina Street. Maison Chablis is on your left.
