The Haka lodge is located perfectly for anyone wanting to be a close walk from Shotover St, however is also nicely set in a quieter area of Queenstown. 5 minute walk from all bars and shops, the Haka lodge is excellent value for all backpackers. Still looking as good as new, kitchens, bathrooms and bedroom (ours a double room) was perfect for our short 2 nights stay. Had a very friendly dog called Monty! :-).
all reviews » Very friendly and helpful staffs. Apparently, they require themselves the standard of a hotel instead of a backpacker. The room is very clean and well decorated. We stayed in a double room which surprisingly came with a TV and lounge chair. The shower rooms are well equipped and very very new. The kitchen looks like a home kitchen, and I love the two big wooden dining tables!. The hostel is new and well situated close to town. We stayed there for 2 days - just made the 8 pm reception close on our first night. We had room 13 which was clean and comfortable and buffered from the kitchen/bathroom noise which people allocated room 12 have complained about. The kitchen is well furbished for cooking, although we did most of our eating in town. Large double room recently redecorated through out. Well equipped kitchen with large fridge and two stoves and sinks. Plenty of toilets and showers. Very friendly welcome and a dog. Dorm beds each have a curtain for privacy. Close to centre of Queenstown and a Foursquare supermarket. The entire stay at Haka Lodge was great! Staff were amazing and a great help if I had any questions. They're were also very friendly and had a great sense of humor, not very serious people at all with was great to see and made the stay at Haka lodge very comfortable and enjoyable. the best hostel i`ve stayed in within 3 months of travelling! The place is quite new, facilities therefore are modern, clean and very well equipped. BBQ on the terasse, 2 kitchens, very spacious bathrooms, free unlimited wifi, great location in a quiet area close to downtown. This backpackers was amazing. They have a drying room for snowboarders / skiers in winter, the bathrooms were always clean, rooms were great, staff very friendly and accommodating. I will definitely book here when i next come to queenstown. one of the best for my 2 week trip like the style of the hostel, cozy and cheerful with great facility best kitchen facility, and super friendly staff (plus a lovely dog that runs around) btw, they also have a branch in queenstown. The staff are very friendly and very helpful, really love them. Good location, just two minutes walk from the center of the town, and is very quiet cause not located in the center. Always clean and comfort. It was a very quick stay for one night, but was everything we needed, beds were comforatable with clean sheets and the room was clean and tidy. We had a bathroom right next door which was perfect. Heavy wooden bunks mean no creaking. Large kitchen with indoor/outdoor seating. Privacy curtains in bunks. Each bunk has a power outlet. Each bunk has its own locker (bring your own padlock). Great location, clean rooms, bathrooms and kitchens. Friendly and helpful staff. Movies available to borrow or watch in the lounge. Highly recommend this place. I loved the beds, with the curtains round them for privacy. The new bathroom was also absolutely lovely, as were the kitchen facilities and cosy living room. great room, good kitchen, good vib, i would stay here again very central location you can walk to everything you need (bus for the mountain, shops and bars). While one more toilet stall would be a good idea, I was annoyed at the scraps of loo paper left lying around in all of them (seriously, if you drop some, pick it up and put it in the bin or toilet bowl - it won't kill you, just wash your hands). A little more courtesy and tidiness in the shared bathrooms wouldn't go astray either. The actual staff did a great cleaning job each day, but they were battling against the tide. Paper thin walls but people during our stay respected the rule to leave kitchen at 10:30 p.m. absolutely nothing... nothing.. it's perfect. Can provide cooking oils and salt for sb. who can not stay long but would love to cook themselves. Lounge door a bit loud, refrigerator very full. Stayed in a double room for a couple and was great but if you get two single beds in a room and put them together you'll be upstairs, close to the bathroom and have a really nice view. The private upstair room is near the kitchen and outdoor yard. It is a little bit noisy at night when you stay there. The bathroom near us was always so busy. I had to go to another floor and pass infront of the reception in my pyjamas!. Pushing 2 single beds together & covering them with double sheets doesn't make a double bed. There was a hard wooden ridge where the 2 beds met so we mostly slept squeezed in to one side or the other. Could be noisy when backpackers chat outside the lodge in the middle of the night. Noise from other rooms. The height of bed is too short to sit in the bed without bumping the head. Small room. There was one evenning when we about to cook our dinner (7:30), we was told the kitchen was closed for exam until 8:30. Even though, there is second kitchen but we were not allowed to enter the first kitchen to take out our food to cook. We waited until 8:30pm but the student still not finished their paper. We only manage to get in around 9:00pm. I didn't remember we was notified there will be an exam going on that day. Nothing. The heater didn't work that well. To be there during the winter you need some warm pajamas. All good. No breakfast. need to prepare by yourself. Nothing to complain. people walking in to the room and sleeping with their gf.. rooms too small. there isn´t very much place for your rucksack in the room. - It's uphill from the centre. washing machines. None really. You get for what you paid. Not too many bathrooms for the amount of rooms. The layout - my room was right next to the kitchen and there were people shouting, playing music, and generally being loud so I didn't sleep much! I was woken at 3am by 2 guys in the kitchen - there are signs up but people don't pay any attention, particularly when they've had a drink. Rooms 6,7 & 8 were immediately BELOW the kitchen. Very noisy - like a bowling alley. And kitchen was open/in use until 10:30 pm and they started at 6:00AM. And Room 8 controlled a window in Room 7. Walls were very thin could hear the people upstairs and in the next rooms talking The Dog running across the floor upstairs.
