Directly on the water of Hokianga Harbour at Omapere, the Copthorne Hotel & Resort is a pretty 4-star hotel offering spacious accommodation in a lovely location. This small hotel has just 33 studio-style guest rooms. Rooms are a good size and all have en suite facilities. All of the rooms have a balcony with many of them overlooking the water. The hotel has 2 restaurants for guests to choose from, both of which offer a lovely selection of traditional New Zealand cuisine including many seafood specialities. The House Bar & Bistro is the perfect venue to enjoy a meal with a view as it overlooks the water and the sand dunes across the bay. The Copthorne Hotel & Resort is ideally situated to explore all that the Hokianga Harbour area has to offer, including the surrounding forests, sand dunes and sandbar.

A beautiful hotel resort on the waters edge overlooking the south heads of Hokianga Harbour, one head being a huge sand dune. We had a single storey Studio apartment with a cathedral ceiling (South Pacific style) and water view. Choice of buffet continental or cooked breakfast served in the restaurant overlooking the pool and sea, was very nice. Note: The Footprints Twilight tour to Waipoua Forest left from this Hotel at 5 p.m. and we missed it by a few minutes. So we visited Tane Mahuta nex.

The staff are well presented and you are made so welcome that you feel like you have spent huge money to travel somewhere overseas to a luxurious dream destination! The rooms are delightfully decorated and we enjoyed the restaurant service and food. Thank you! We will be back!. Loved the rooms with an amazing view, you could see the sea from your bed. Restaurant was lovely, again the setting was beautiful. The huge sand dune was a surprise and a sight to see especially when we were lucky enough to get a fiery sunset which made the dune blaze into colour. Nice beach and interesting walks. Location - Right on a lovely stretch of the harbor entrance. Nice walks along the rocky, shale beach out to the sea. You can climb the sea cliffs to a beautiful, ruggedly landscaped promontory on the harbor heads. The restaurant has decent food. Rooms now have WiFi access (nz$20 for 24-hours). That the staff were really welcoming and always attentive, polite and helpful. The food was superb. The hotel continues to live up to its reputation of true manaaki manuhiri (providing outstanding hospitality for her guests). Professor Margaret Mutu, Ngāti Kahu from Karikari. We just stayed one night in a studio room which had easy access to the beach. We didn't have an ocean front room but did have a view of the bay. Beautiful. The room was generously sized and very clean. We didn't eat at the resort but the restaurant looked lovely. Wonderful views from the resort and right on the beach. Very peaceful, quiet and relaxing. Excellent walks and very friendly locals and staff.Spacious 2 bedroom unit great for 4 people or families. Excellent pool and gardens. The staff were friendly and the grounds beautiful. The staff and service in the restaurant was very good. The laundromat at the hotel had fixed cycles but we were able to use the laundromat next door. I really enjoyed the friendly helpful staff especially Mel who was on reception.The cook was a lady w.ho was a very good cook and the evening meals were superb and really made the evening special. The location ,views ,service ,meals and staff were amazing. I would defiantly recommend it as a place to stay.We also stayed at the Copthorne in Auckland wich was also excellent. We were disappointed that we missed out on a room in the newer area so had to put up with a less luxurious room and didnt get a very good sleep on a fairly average type of bed/room. we would have stayed longer if we had a more comfortable bed. and a nicer bathroom..It needs an upgrade to bring it alongside other milleniums/copthornes Ive stayed in. few things in the room were starting to get a bit tired, carpet, bathroom tiles ect, tv was quite small. Can't think of anything. Having to leave!. Lack of basic cooking facilities in room, such as microwave and toaster, but understandable as restaurant is on site. The Wi-Fi cost of $10 per 24 hours. The high cost of meals, though of good standard. Having to walk outside to dinner. My eye fillet will cooked perfectly to rare as requested was quite tough. * Not enough milk supplied. Problem with the toilet the 1st night Bathroom veneer chipping off and shower that leaked water Paying full price and then seeing a grabone for this hotel at 1/2 the price a week later. The rooms were a very minimal set up, not even a dish cloth to wipe the bench top down. It's great that they have such a clean pool but heated would make it actually useable, for another 2 - 3months. It's a same that it wasn't solar heated. A spa available would've been nice also. From our week of traveling this accommodation would've have been the least value for money. Hole in the ceiling left side of the bed - damp smell. Not what I expect in a Copthorne Hotel even when they are renovating! Hopefully the fibre I could see wasn't asbestos!. Poor lighting in the room and very small tv. Refrigerator on all night and noisy. Some rooms have poor parking and difficult access (we were in Room 14). The whistling of the wind through the ranch sliders. Room very dingy with bad lighting, poor TV reception. Had to ask two days in a row for toilet paper and had a very late check-in 4 pm. bathroom a little tatty, bathroom door didnt close properly and hair dryer didnt work....decor a little ordinary. The $20 buffet dinner (supposedly Chinese) was poor and not worth even the small amount charged. Expensive breakfast. the situation of the tv high up on the wall could not watch it in bed, lamp shade tatty, rooms looking tired. Charge for using credit card. My biggest disappointment was Internet access. It seems trite to me that Copthorne would ask me to pay $5 for 1/2 hour of access. QWe have travelled in nz for 3 weeks and this was the first place that asked us to pay for Internet access. Insufficient lighting in the room. Room had hole in the ceiling. Poor TV reception. The room we stayed in had been rearranged and the television was on the same wall as the bed and above our heads which made it difficult to watch when we wanted to lay in bed to see it. some older units outside main building where a bit run down (but clean =) ). The hole in the ceiling which was not even looked at by the staff. Our room didn't have net curtains which meant we lacked privacy from outside. The only way we could ensure privacy was to draw the main curtains which enclosed the room completely. Not good. This needs to be fixed. It also needed a knife and plate in the room kitchenette to cut up fruit, cheese etc. Nothing grandiose but a few basics would be appreciated. Very basic room that was very dated. Shower/toilet area was very poor for the price. Very budget rooms at a high price.

For dinner sample some regional cuisine made from locally grown produce, or try our freshly caught crayfish cooked on request in the à la carte restaurant, along with some of Northlands finest wines and followed by a decadent homemade dessert.
