-Great little hotel in a castle -very large rooms -very large bathrooms -very nice large gardens -charmingly decorated -nice and helpful staff -very good restaurant This is a really nice small castle that has been converted into a hotel / restaurant. They also have very nice gardens and outside areas, a perfect place for a wedding. The restaurant is very nice, with 8 tables, the menu is leaning torwards traditional french cuisine. Having conquered a place for itself among the top Dutch restaurants, the Havixhorst provides more than just a meal. Here in the Drentse countryside we work as much as possible with local ingredients. Potatoes and vegetables are cultivated especially for the Havixhorst, the wild game comes from the region, and the herbs come from our own castle garden. It is these 'small details' that make the Havixhorst's menu literally and figuratively exclusive.

Popular for its beautiful nature, Drenthe offers many excellent walking and cycling routes. The Reest Valley is a magnificent area of extensive woods and heathland and home to the many storks that return each year to breed.

The charming nearby towns and cities provide a wide variety of exciting day trips. For example, discover the historic Hunenbeds (5.500 year old megalithic skeletons of a burial chambers constructed of huge boulders weighing 25.000 kg) in Borger or walk amongst the tree tops at the ‘Boomkroonpad’ visitor’s centre in Drouwen.
Step back into the past as you stroll around the small village of Orvelte - a living museum village where people still live and work in traditional ways.
For a chance to admire traditional Saxony farmhouses with thatched roofs, Oud Aalden is the place to be.

Travelling information

When driving on the A28 between Meppel and Hoogeveen, take
junction number 24 "De Wijk". 500 meters after the junction, take a right and follow the "Shiphorsterweg" towards Lankhorst. De Havixhorst can be found on your left hand side.
