The café-restaurant, with its sun lounge, is stylishly designed and you will quickly feel at ease here, unwinding at the bar or relishing an excellent lunch or dinner. You can also enjoy your morning papers with a cup of coffee in the sun lounge, or relax there in the light of the long summer evenings.
The sun lounge is also very suitable for small gatherings, such as a family dinner, for example.

Hotel-Café-Restaurant Het Zwanemeer (Dutch for 'swan lake') is situated in the attractive village of Gieten and is run as a convivial family enterprise with a friendly atmosphere allied to modern comfort. After a hike or a bike trip, the spacious sun terrace offers you the opportunity to catch your breath over an ice cream, a coffee or a drink. The hotel lies on a tourist cycle route and there is always a pleasant coming and going in the summer months. The hotel also has lockable facilities for safe cycle parking.

There is plenty to do in Gieten and the surrounding countryside. The extensive wooded environment, including the 'Zwanemeer' woods, an area with sand drifts and many interesting features, is much loved by walkers. The well-known recreation lake, ''t Nije Hemelriek' ('new kingdom of heaven') means fun for the whole family.
Exploring the environment by bicycle A network of asphalt cycle tracks guarantees maximum cycling pleasure, taking you to the most beautiful spots in the surroundings. You can also follow the renowned 'Hondsrug route' (the historic route over the natural sandy ridges). There are also plenty of facilities, in the Zwanemeer among others, for those who enjoy the quiet pastime of fishing.

The hotel rooms are comfortably furnished. All have radio alarm. A number of rooms have a larger bathroom with a bath.
Nearly all hotel rooms are situated on the ground floor.

Gieten is situated on the N34 main road, running from Groningen-Emmen, and is thus easily reached. Coming by car from Zwolle (via the A28), leave the motorway just before Assen and take the N33 towards Gieten.
On arriving at the roundabout at the outskirts of Gieten, take the first right towards Gieten-Emmen, then turn left at the first set of traffic lights. At the centre of Gieten, turn left and follow this road until you see the white façade of Het Zwanemeer Hotel through the trees on your left-hand side.
The nearest railway station is in Assen (15 km.).
