Bergen aan Zee is part of Bergen, Schoorl, Groet and Camperduin up to the municipality of Bergen. Bergen aan Zee itself is entirely enclosed by dunes and the forestry area of Schoorl and the Noord-Hollands Duinreservaat.

The artistic village still attracts artists. They still exhibit their works in the art galleries, the Kunstenaarscentrum (Artists’ Centre) or during one of the art and artistic markets.

In the vicinity: Alkmaar with its monumental city centre, extensive shopping and of course the cheese market. The oldest auction (Broeker Veiling in Broek op Langedijk), the west Frisian market in Schagen; these are only a few examples of the many possibilities in the area.
