What people say
Rico was a wonderful host (many thanks for everything Rico!!), helping
us with a lot of tips to visit Kyoto and take the best from the area.
The room (with garden) was the highlight of our trip to Japan. Big,
traditional and spacey room, with a magnificent garden view. Absolutely
quiet zone, excellent to rest after a day wondering around Kyoto. The
house is beautiful, an old japanese wood house. The room hasn't wc,
but you've one few steps outside it, and the shower is quite
comfortable. You ca. all reviews »
Rico was an absolutely amazing host! She defiantly made our stay memorable in Kyoto. Helping us with anything we needed or anything we wanted to do she would happily give us directions/ made reservations etc
Her house is a beautifully traditional Japanese style home set in the gorgeous little backstreets of Gion, you feel a real local vibe and it was great getting lost and popping into local tea houses and restaurants! Was so refreshing from staying in backpackers/hotels among other western t.
What a Fabulous experience! Rico the owner was so welcoming, warm,
friendly and young! She helped us make an itinerary everyday. She helped
us find places to eat. She would call ahead and let the restaurant know
we were coming. She knows the bus and train system very well. In all she
is a wealth of information and generously shares it. The house is
beautiful. Our room was very large and opened onto the garden. I
can't imagine staying at any other place. We fell in love with
Yumiya Komachi and R.
The house is close to bus stops so you have the opportunity to ride the buses to get to the sightseeing spots. Another plus is that Kiyomizudera is only 10-15 minutes down the street. You can beat other tourists quicker!
Another big plus is that Gion is also 5-7 minutes away by walking, plus Yasaka Shrine and Maruyama Park. You can hit three birds with one stone.
I had a single room that consisted of four tatami mats. It sounds small but it's really not. Plus the closet is huge so you can mak.
I had an amazing stay at Yumiya Komachi, and enjoyed every minute of it! Rico, the super friendly owner, was always there for any kind of questions or suggestions and for a good talk. She runs this beautiful 100 years old house with lots of care. I had a beautiful Japanese style room which was spacious and full of atmosphere. The location of the house is also perfect to start the day with exploring this beautifuly city. Thank you Rico for this memorable stay. I'll be back;)!.
My stay at Yumiya Komachi was fantastic. Rico is a wonderful host! Thoughtful, patient and genuinely caring. I describe the place as "Design" and what I mean is that there is a real thought put into the decoration and layout. It feels truly authentic to an original Japanese home. It's in a great location for walking all over Kyoto and is a good value financially. I really can not say enough good things. It is a great find!.
Pretty, classic house in the backstreets of Gion, located near a supermarket and several cute shops selling local wares. Surrounded by various smaller temples and shrines, Yumiya Komachi is also easy for visiting Kyoto's main attractions.
Rico, the owner and hostess, is very chearful, extremely helpful and speaks fluent English. She even took us to the local fireworks show! We would gladly return to Yumiya Komachi.
Rico was the perfect host. She helped us enjoy our stay in Kyoto during
our honeymoon. Not only was the location perfect. Located in the Gion
district, but she told us where to go walk around to see Geisha. She
had great suggestions for dinner and shopping. Rico even left us a
small gift of local treats one night. She was a big reason we enjoyed
our stay in Kyoto.
Excellent location, right near the Gion district and only a short walk to the city centre & train lines & main temples. We took a taxi from JR station as per Ricos recommendation, was only about 800yen and worth taking her advice. Rico was a fantastic host, only too helpful to assist with any query we had. A very relaxing and quiet place to stay.
The owner was extremely helpful. As first time visitors to Kyoto she showed some wonderful restaurants, depending on our budget, shared info on the local events, theatre, bus stops etc. the ryokan was quaint and quiet. Very good location and great value for money. Our room was clean and relaxed. Couldn't fault it and will definitely be using it again.
The lady host of the traditional house is nice and kindly! She recommended good and not very expensive restaurants for us. Everyday before we came back the house, we got tidy and clean room so that we felt comfortable. The position of the house is good so we can get No. 206 bus stop within 10 minutes by foot.
the house is very very beautiful. If you are looking for a traditional japanese house, you are at the right place. the location ist perfect! in a quiet area full of japanese restaurants and small beautiful houses as well as temples.
Rico and her staff try everything to make your holidays a pleasure.
I do like the location. it is near the Gion area and Kiyomizu-dera Temple. You can also reach the kyoto station in less than 15 minutes by walk and 10 minutes by bus.
The owner, Rico, is very helpful. She can speak good English.
The room is very clean and so is the toilet and bathroom.
Warm atmosphere and a great host who speaks perfect English. We had a very good time and gathered many useful suggestions. We wish we had more time to spend there also because the location is very charming and conveniently located for visiting temples and similar places.
Spacious clean rooms with lovely accessories. Shared shower, toilets and sinks nicely decorated and also clean. Great location to explore Kyoto, very handy for Kiyomizu-dera and good bus links. The owner is very helpful and was interested in our visit.
Rico could not do enough to make our stay a success. She thinks of details for your comfort and is extremely informative. A fluent English speaker. The house is in an excellent location and is quiet. Beautifully decorated and a lovely old building.
rico was so sweet and helpful, she handed me a map to make sure i won't get lost in kyoto and recommended me some places. the guesthouse is very clean and my room was very cozy, i would totally come back to this place for my next japan trip.
The house is perfect which is very clean, with enough space and the lady boss is really nice. She recommended good and delicious restaurants for us. Although we shared bath room and toilet with other guests, it is not inconvenient at all.
It's located in an excelent place. It's an old traditional japanese house located in the geisha neighborhood, so maybe you will be lucky to see one. The presonel is very friendly and always there to help you. Very quiet place and calm.
Rico, the owner is a very carefull, clever, nice and so good tasted
women and the place is like her.
She speacks a perfect English and is always happy to answer your questions.
The houses is perfectlly situated.
Rico is am amazing host
The place is spotless and you're in the heart of geisha district.
Rico takes extra thought if you're traveling on your own
So wish i could stay longer.
Highly highly recommended.
The narrow streets....the little shops....the traditional Japanese feel
of the place....the shrines and temples....the food...the manager who
speaks terrific English and takes great care of her guests!.
I like everything about this ryokan. The location is fantastic. Within walking distance to everything in kyoto. Rico was amazing and we had great laughs while trying on kimonos and yukatas. Amazing!!.
Really nice and helpful owner. Providing us with many useful informations and giving us the feeling we belong to the family.
We will definitely come back.
Thank you for everything Rico!.
Great central location. Very comfortable room with garden view. Staff were extremely helpful with maps, restaurant options and local transportation. Would definitely stay here again.
The household lady, Rico, was great. She'd been very helpful. This
was a wonderful place with an excellent service. Thank you, Rico, for
making our trip to Kyoto so special. Love you!.
I really enjoyed the Japanese style 100 years old house. The room was small, but ok (thanks to the spacious wardrobe). A very nice experience. And the staff is very kind and helpful.
Very authentic and original japanese styled house. Beautifull bedrooms. Very nice furniture. Owner Rico will explain you all her own experiences to discover the city in the best way.
As everyone mentioned the manager ils very warm welcoming ans helpfull.
Thé guest house ils simple but vert lovely ans traditionnal. You van
rent a bike. Grenat experience.
Wonderful host, with good English skills. There is a curfew, and rules of when to shower or use the hairdryer, so that you won't be disturbed by other guests.
Rico was very helpful and welcoming. The hotel itself is beautiful with nice traditional features. Fits perfectly to the overall atmosphere in Kyoto.
The location is very good, near to Gion and downtown. Rico, the host, is a rock star and give you a lot of hints (She also speaks a perfect English!).
Charming ryokan. Stayed at the room at ground floor with garden view, which felt very authentic.
Extremely friendly and helpfull personnel.
Wonderful location, with a very helpful english speaking owner manager - Rico. The advice she gave really enhanced our experience.
The traditional Japanese house arrangement. The convenient location to places of interest and good staff at the house.
very nice small ryokan, very authentic, a real great place, quiet and cosy. Staff speaks perfect english.
The Japanese style house, large comfortable room with character and the warm personal welcome.
Rico was a fantastic hostess with lots of great suggestions and advice.
Friendly and helping Staff
House
Convenient Location
Cleanliness.
the stuff is very nice and helpful.the location is very good .
Nice location and very friendly staff. Very japanese :).
Perfect location, really helpfull staff.
The staff and the location.
hostess and location.
The facilities provided at the ryokan is what we had expected. It is a
different experience altogehter. Rico-san who runs the place is friendly
and provides sufficient information about places to visit and to eat. We
had a trouble free stay.
Very well located. Nice and friendly owner, trying to create a "guesthouse" atmosphere.
Nothing at all.
We liked everything! It was perfect, for real!.
Nothing.
During the hot summer months, the shared bathrooms can become a bit humid. They are, however, very clean!.
Price isnt cheap, but is not unreasonable either. Bear in mind the rooms can be very sensitive to noise.
nothing.
Nothing.
Wifi internet should be more stable. Nowadays internet is indeed essential for traveling. Locking the door at 11:30pm is probably a bit too drastic.
The only downside is the noise that can be heard from other guests - lots of floors creaking and voices. Take ear plugs! Also as we were by the front door I don't think some guests realised that it was a room so didn't control their volume early in the morning!.
Difficult to find!.
If you are there to go out for party at night is not good because the curfew.
Rien.
Loved everything.
Nothing at all.
Liked everything, even sharing the bathroom facilities was east.
Shared bathroom / shower can be a bit of a problem in the mornings.
Curefuw 23h30 for those who wants tout en joy nightlife. I was
not concerned.
There is a curfew, and rules of when to shower or use the hairdryer; you have to avoid disturbing other guests.
This is an old wooden house. Soundproofing is of course not the best in class.
Shared bathrooms (very clean though). Rooms are not isolated although Rico ask very kindly to be very quiet after 10pm.
As any old Japanese wooden building it is a bit noisy, but this is explained and everyone takes care of the house rules to avoid disturbing other guests.
Downstairs room was a little noisy - upstairs is a better option.
the toilet space is rather narrow.
you really have to be quiet, because you can hear because of the paper walls a lot. Typical Japan. Real Japan.
Hard to find - no sign and out of sight.
Nothing.
because the bathroom is only one,so sometimes you need to wait to wash if there are many guests.but just like home,so it is not too bad.
Reception is not always maned the hours stated.
Though the location its a little trick to find.
For 80 Euros per night, even in Kyoto I was expecting at least a bassinet in my room (no facilities in room).
