We stayed in an extention to the Bauer hotel that is the Casanova, one of the best hotels in Venice. very convenient location from main attraction site ( 3 min walking from San Marco area) 3 min walking for the waterbus stop and it has it's water deck for water Taxi. Very convenient for family and buisness use. high standard hotel (that's why it's quite expensive ). Great staff in the hotel. We travel a lot, but never had so warm and professional reception on arrival. When booking, ask for old building called Pallazio. Rooms with Canal view have even small balcony. Breakfast on the roof is amazing. View - tres formidable, over all Venice.The location was excellant. The staff were absolutely first class, from the manager to the waitresses. Excellent service, polite staff. Clean, lovely room. Wonderful breakfast included.Free buffet breakfast included with the room! Shower was very nice as well. Bauer Hotel is a combination of 3 different hotels : Palazzo, Bauer and Cassanova ; we had a room in the last mentionned which is in fact the one with the lowest fame. The fact that the charged us for delivering the continental breakfast (included in our stay) to the room. Breakfast was a bit basic. Many of hotel staff were very snooty, less helpful and less accommodating than you would expect at a nice hotel. My room had no natural light. There appear to be many rooms with no exterior windows that access sunlight. There is significant construction across the Grand Canal so the amazing view was less amazing. MoreTV chanels required, stayed 3 nights and got only one free bottle of water ( Each cost 8 Euro from mini bar). cold, professional staff instead of nice warm greeting staff... 5starts doesnt have to be impersonal. No ironinf facilties to take the slight creases out of my clothes after travelling, they offered an expensive ironing service which was not acceptable, I was also not allowed to take ice from the bar to my room, but it was brought to my room without charge.Very expensive to eat there - and food was average. Would recommend hotel but not to eat there. I was not able to have a late checkout /requested 1:30 and was told it was impoossible.As a frequent quest I think this is a little inflexible. sibletw e. Vast areas of unused space on ground floor - could be used in part to provide proper business centre (which, at present, consists of one PC stuck in a cubby hole), which should be essential for a 5-star hotel.Strange smell in the room:-(. First bedroom had a smell eminating ...moved reasonably quickly to another bigger room which unfortunately was very dull with only one small window looking onto a wall with overhanging plant. Having travelled extensively felt that this was a poor deluxe room in terms of aspect but as only staying for 4 nights did not complain.We had bookec breakfast, which we skipped on the first morning however on the second morning we went down for breakfast and there was an enormous que which we were not prepared to stand in considering this was a 5 star hotel, this should not happen. We then went out and had to spend £40 on breakfast. the hotel was beautiful just well over priced. and unless you paid extra on top of the already expensive room rates for breakfast in your room, you would have to settle for dodgy scrambled egg, stewed mushrooms, and little pancake type things for hot food. the rest consisted of cold meats and cheeses, small cheap yoghurt pots and a few cereals along with concentrated juices. some fresh fruit...we have have better choice for breakfast in a 5 star hotel it felt a bit transit style. the service personnel talked laudly behind our room door in the morning. Staffs(Especially, consierge).

The closest point to the hotel that is reachable by car (and the only place in Venice where you can drive) is Piazzale Roma. From Piazzale Roma (car parking garage) or Santa Lucia railway station to the hotel:
•Public boat (1 or 82) to the San Marco stop: about 40 minutes by line 1 and 25 minutes by line 82. From the San Marco/Vallaresso stop to the hotel, guests have to walk (less than five minutes) straight on to the end of Calle Vallaresso then turn left into Campo San Moisè
•Water taxi: about 15 to 20 minutes directly to the hotel dock

From Santa Lucia railway station to the hotel:
•Water taxis are available from the waterfront immediately outside the railway station directly to the hotel dock: about 15 minutes
•Take vaporetto line 1 to San Marco Vallaresso: about 45 minutes, or line 82

From Venice Marco Polo Airport:
•Water taxi directly to the hotel dock: about 40 minutes
•From the Airport water dock you can take the official transportation boat, Alilaguna, to San Marco: about 1 hour 15 minutes
