Right in the heart of Florence, this hotel is in an amazing spot. Just a short walk (up a little street and across the square) and you are at the Ufizzi Museum, after having passed all the restaurants. The rooms are furnished with basic furniture, yet amazingly comfortable-we had a table with 2 chairs, wardrobe, bed, and two bedside tables in ours. We also had a near new bathroom, with some of the other rooms being renovated while we were there. Fast, strong wifi, and very friendly, helpful sta. all reviews »
We couldn't have hoped to have lived at a better hotel, particularly
from the point of view of its location, literally a few steps from the
piazza della signoria and the palazzo vecchio (and also extremely close
to nearby attractions such as the uffizi, bargello and ponte vecchio).
The hotel itself is quite wonderful, and our room was clean and more
than adequate for our purposes. We'd chosen the 'private
bathroom outside the room' option, and it ended up being only a
minor issue (if at all).
Location for Hotel Por Santa Maria was great.
Tons of eateries located close as well as many historic sites.
Staff was excellent. Great source of tourist information.
Hotel Por Santa Maria is a one star hotel, but when you weigh in location as well as staff, it would be hard to only give them a one.
Obviously its not a high end place, but for the money, it would be hard to justify anything else.
Felt very safe and felt my personal property was safe.
Excellent access to Old Town Firenze. Perfect for folks interested in maximizing time spent taking in the art and beauty of the city without spending resources on accommodations with time-consuming spa-like features. This is just a solid, clean, safe place to stay for a relatively low price. Booking and interactions with the staff via e-mail and internet went perfectly.
Hands down the best location in Florence. Just around the corner of piazza della signoria, Pallazo vecchio, Our window overlooked the Mercato Nuovo (Mercato Vecchio)
and to top it all off, You can see Ponte vecchio from the road (5 mins walk).
The location and the price of this hotel was perfect. For an expensive city like Florence, you really cannot beat it. I did not have any of the noise issues that some others have complained about.

only thing i can suggest is when you walk into the building have a sign calling out that the hotel is on the 4th floor. It was a bit confusing.
Shared toilet. Only an irritant for those middle-of-the-night trips that some need to make.

Had difficulty finding the exact location of the hotel. It was a door in one of the alleys which you would still have to take the lift up to the fourth floor.
Would be nice to have a coffee station in the lobby.
Somehow noisy at night because its location next to the Mercado Novo, specially during the weekend.
I would have liked a coffee station in their small lobby. I NEED my coffee in the morning, and had to get dressed and go to a coffee bar. I would be happy to pay for a cup, just to get the day started. Otherwise, everything was very good.
Sound insulation is bad. We got complaint by the man living next door.
