The hotel is very close to the Santa Maria Novella railway station and just 10-15 min. walk away from major sights. We had a very spacious corner room with high seilings, so it never got very hot and it was enough to switch the air conditioner on for a couple of hours in the evening to keep the room cool all night. The windows are soundproof, no noise from the street. The furniture is old-fashioned and comfortable, we had 2 armchairs and a small round table besides the usual desk and a chair. W.
all reviews » Hotel Desiree is on the 3rd floor (European 2nd) of an old art deco building in the heart of Florence. Minutes from the statue of David, shopping, restaurants and portal to bus and train. Front desk staffed 24/7 by guides who are fluent in English and other non-Italian languages. Wonderful old-fashioned elevator, chandeliers, and deco tile. It is perfectly located, jut 2 mins walk from the Station and very close to the centre of Florence. 5 mins to the Duomo and 5 mins to the Conference Centre. The rooms are comfortable, the breakfast very generous and the staff are lovely. This is the 2nd time I have stayed there and I would recommend it to my friends and colleagues. The staff, especially Mirko, was very helpful and went out of their way to be of assistance. They all spoke English well. The hotel was very comfortable and clean. The location was outstanding in relation to the train station and the sites of Florence. Desiree is a pretty hotel inside with beautiful furniture, clean, large room for a family of 5 and a little balcony. Breakfast was delicious with lots of variety. Staff were helpful, close to railway station, walking distance to most sites. We like the old-fashioned design of the hotel. The staff are extremely helpful in providing good directions and advices. Great location...just 03 minutes walk from Santa maria Novella..the main station in Firenze...the street on which the hotel is located is "Via Fiume" and quite many hotels can be found on this street.. Facilities are antiquated...beds are in a very bad shape...the springs poke into your back...Bathrooms are very small and needs extensive renovation...No English Channel in rooms, as if guests are expected to know Italian/Spanish language....Breakfast room is rather very small...although breakfast is quite OK...nothing great....Overall experience was not good for the amount charged..Hotel needs extensive renovation immediately... The furniture is old, the TV is placed very high and small screen. The flush of the toilet makes a loud notice very disturbing!.
