- Location (if wanting to stay in the Old City walls) ; took us a while to locate but it's right in front of the 'Chain Gate' ; short walk to all the highlights in the old city - Customer Service, very helpful owner ; even though we weren't able to extend for a 2nd night, the owner tried to make it work and apologized profusely when he couldn't make it happen - Spacious room - Rustic building - Price (one of the most reasonable inside the old city).

I was welcomed very warmly, and didn't even have to make up my own bed, which, btw, was probably the most comfortable I have ever encountered in a hostel. The dorm is quite spacious, and the shower is big enough that you could comfortably scrub a medium-sized elephant in it. Overall, I had a great stay - I will certainly be back!. The hostel was so good.Really comfortable. The owner was very nice, the room was clean, the bathroom was huge, and the price included breakfast was amazing! A great hostel in an amazing location, set within the historical buildings of the chain gate into the Dome of the Rock complex in the old city of Jerusalem. Hostel itself is actually built inside one of the (ancient) Old City buildings with all the pros and cons (as far as hotels go, there are more cons, though). Somebody will appreciate location, authenticity and feel of the place above all else; me, I'd prefer a window in the room, clean washbasin, decent bed, shower separate from the toilet (I mean the same room, but a. - Due to the stone construction, kind of damp, stuffy feeling inside the room - Mold all around the bathroom - Breakfast limited (kind of expected), but quality also sub-par - Wi-Fi coverage limited to the passage. The only tiny drawback was that the description on the website is lacking the house number (155) Other than that - no complaints at all!!!. The location was great though only muslims could get into Temple Mount from Chain Gate.Others are only allowed to enter from Morocco Gate which was 5 to 10 minutes from the hostel.But everyone could exit through Chain Gate so not a big problem. I slept in the big women's dorm alone, so I had the bathroom for me alone as well (jackpot =). With ten people there could appear some troubles, that will probably be managed as well. I'd recommend a purchase of locker room. Is beggining of their bussines and maybe have to fix one thing, but is a good place. Some of the rooms are very small and a bit noisy. It was hard to find in the maze of Old City streets. The hostel should warn guests that on Bab Al salileh street, there is a checkpoint where the guards will not allow passage. So you must know to tell them you are headed for Chain Gate Hostel, otherwise you will be redirected all the way around, and gets you lost. Short of bath room, short of the comune space. Wi-Fi could not be picked up in the room, apart of that all perfect. Wi-fi available only in the hallway. Well, I could probably do with all the rest, but windowless room and mortar falling off the walls and ceiling is something I really find hard to stomach. I understand difficulty of turning an Old city building into a nice place to stay, but nevertheless I am sure that more could have been done here. Might be interesting to compare with other hostels in the area.
