We stayed in Bawa Walson twice, at the beginning of our month in India and at the end. We liked it much more at the end. The hotel is well positioned in the Sudder street, near markets and restaurants. Staff are helpful and facilities are much better than in a usual Indian hotel. Fast internet in the room, after Kerala we forgot it existed! Beds are comfortable, there is a fridge, a kettle and a good size tv. The hotel is responsive to criticism: the Lonely planet considered it overpriced witho.
all reviews » Hotel Bawa walson is great value for money in that hard medium priced bracket, rooms were a good size, staff were very accomodating and friendly. In a nice central location of Kolkata. Very clean, lovely room with excellent bathroom. Breakfast included was fine. Location is fantastic, close to tourist attractions, markets and restaurants. Hot water and spa like showers, friendly and helpful staff , friendly doorman to negotiate street taxis , 24 hour room service,warm breakfast buffet. Nice breakfast variety of choices. Good service and good spot to rest after exploring th. City. Occupied by foreigners. India manages to print fat books very cheaply, but still has no maps in hotels. Every visitor asks for a map. It may be good to have a bit of information about the nearby restaurants and sites. Some maintenance issues: seats in the restaurant are all on the floor. Windows on first floor look into housekeeping office and alley, some beds lacked proper cushioning but staff will gladly move you to a nicer room upon request. Area is really but so all Kolkat. Cost of the hotel transfer was very expensive Poor selection of TV channels. music in the hall. when i reached kol at 7o clock in the morning it take 15min to your hotel we didn't get room there.we have to wait 1 hour then they have provided the room please u are requested to give the room that person should not wait there. I could`nt see any views from the room. There is no sufficient sun light. Only one window just behind the backside of others building. The internet connection speed is horrible bad. I stayed in this hotel 4 months ago and the internet speed was perfect. It appears they switched to a low cost internet service provider. You can barely open 2 websites at a time... The hotel room in the ground floor had mould on the wall. They repainted over it but it still clearly visible. The hotel got to clean the mould. They can't let guests stay in with mould on the wall. restaurant service was slow. No tour desk and the hotel can not even provide a map. Front counter staff not helpful. We had stayed at this hotel the previous week and been quite happy. When we came back we had a different room with broken plumbing, which was not repaired when we reported it. Also, between first and second stay hotel had introduced a new wifi system which made it impossible to get online. Reported to reception but no solution forthcoming. wifi was pain....very slow wifi...if you really looking for high speed Wifi connection, better don't choose them!. -we have stayed there for 4 nights and we have changed our room 3 times. -WIFI was very poor(TATADOCUMO) -staffs are polite but not so prompt -breakfast was terrible -according to the service the price of this hotel is really high -safe was not mounted to the wall/closet which i thing completely defeats the purpose of having a safe and it didn't have enough space to keep our valuables -In short we are not coming back to this hotel ever again.
