Everything was wonderful--the location, my large, comfortable room, breakfast, free wifi, a pleasant and efficient staff. No it isn't a four/five star but that's because there isn't room service, a large bar etc.--all fluff. This hotel has everything to make for a comfortable stay and was nicer than many 4 stars where I've stayed. Plus it offers excellent value for money. My wife and I have agreed that there is not one single thing we would find fault with about Kalvin House. It was exceptional for the price in every way - room, service, access, breakfast, location. 5 minutes from Kalvin Ter subway, the Great Market, National Museum, Danube and straight across the river from the Gellert and the Citadella.
all reviews » It was extremely hot out and we had A/C which was included. Breakfast was served in a bright, cheery room and plentiful. The lcoation was very convenient. The shower had plenty of hot water. The beds were comforatable but a bit low to the ground for us older folks. The outside of hotel looks unnoticeable, but I was suprised from the comfort. The hotel staff fulfil the duties strict and imperceptible.Fantastic building, great location, superb room, fairly priced, veryhelpful staff and great little touches such as free internet usage. When we first arrived we thought we had come ti a dump from the hallway etc. There was a lot of construction going on, but that is true generally in Budapest right now.My preference would be as follows: Fixed shower head and curtain over bath. More absorbant, thicker towels. Lamp for subdued lighting in lounge area. Better quality pillows on bed. A little shabby but it did the job! Also the bathroom tap drippedbut I didn't ask for the staff to deal with it as I was only stayingone night.My teenagers wanted something more modern!. breakfast is a bit limited:would have liked more fruit. maybe a little bit noisy but i guess it depends on the room. No Coffee making facilities in rooms, Bottled Water charging 500hufwhilst bought in local shop at 135huf, Pavement outside hotel and hotelsteps dirty and damaged. Wooden old bed were good looking but old ones keep noise when you sleepand turn side on bed. Not so clean.noise and room hot. After reading all the comments about "huge" rooms, it was disappointing to be lodged in an overgrown cupboard - often the fate of solo travellers. It was also gloomy. Glimpses of the spacious light double opposite only sharpened disappointment. The only way to cool the room was to open the window, and the only way to see was to put on the light, which combination was fine by mosquitoes.Room was not anything like described. Should adopt a more modern look; main entrance is not appealing; found a bug in the room that was killed by me but not cleaned from one day to another. The room is old and lack or maintenence, the breackfast was so poor, the shower was brook and the price was high for the quatity of services that they provide us.
