What people say

Where to start... This was like dropping into a piece of paradise. Located 5km from the city of Carcassonne, so we needed a car to get there but well worth the drive! Lovely chateau, staff, amenities and food. The staff was very helpful in giving us directions. Allowed me to practice my French by not directly converting to English (until I struggled for the words). I felt even more at home when I discovered the little french kitten in the courtyard! Surrounded by vineyards, our walk through the.
all reviews Stayed for 2 nights so we could explore the medieval city which is a short drive away. This is certainly worth a visit. The Chateau is a fabulous old building with bags of character although worn in parts. Room was adequate with view over the grounds. Restaurant is closed Monday evenings so we ate in town. We booked to eat on the Tuesday evening and had set menu which included bottle of wine. Meal and wine was ok. Busy restaurant so might be wise to book in advance. Loved this gem although I think we had one of the rooms yet to be refurbished. Despite this we loved the room, eeenormous and very clean. We loved the swimming pool area, very relaxed and chilled. Some tea/coffee making in the room would have been good. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the restaurant was excellent. The little village is just that, very little and sleepy. Perfect for visiting Carcassonne if you've got transport. A classic French chateau style hotel, very grand though reminiscent of a by-gone era. Slightly faded glory in the decor but comfortable nonetheless. (We were in Pimpernele). Excellent restaurant with the all inclusive €45 meal option including aperitif, full bottles of white, rose and red wines and four courses was a good choice. Weather prevented full use of the pretty pool area but it was good to have the facility. Really great setting and facilities. Old fashioned charm but with a modern laid-back twist. Very stylish rooms and great food in the restaurant. The setting was very natural with a secluded pool area. No feeling of being elbow to elbow with other guests because of the scale of the chateau. All the staff were extermely friendly and helpful. The chateau has been carefully renovated to very tastefully blend old and new. All facilities are exceptional and the welcome is very warm. The meals on the the terrace and the breakfasts in the beautiful décor od the breakfast room are to die for! A superb hotel!. This was our 2nd stay in this hotel - and every bit as good 2nd time around. Peaceful and quiet - lovely rooms with period-style furniture. Food was 1st class - and with wine included, we thought very good value. Definitely hope to be back in future years. Great welcome to this country Chateau in a quiet village but within easy distance of busy Carcassonne. Wonderful room with lots of space. Service was friendly and efficient. Evening meal was very good with owner made wine (white red and rose) included. We loved our room and the antique furniture. Opening our bedroom window we gazed out onto rolling vineyards. The staff was very welcoming. We had a large buffet breakfast and then drove the short distance to the medieval town of Carcassonne. Amazing Ancient chateau. Tastefully furnished. Large roomy bedrooms. Elegant breakfast room lots of breakfast choices. Large atmospheric dining room, good staff. All-in 45euro menu includes owners wine and proved very good value. Our third visit to this hotel and it never fails to impress with the splendid decor of the bedrooms, attention to detail throughout the building, the courtesy and helpfulness of the staff and the high standard of the restaurant. Beautiful Chateau, ornate surroundings, clean room with comfortable bed and brilliant bathroom. Food was superb (inclusive set menu with wine 45 euros). Pool was clean and inviting. Staff were polite and very helpful. The reception, bar/lounge and dining areas were very impressive with nice furniture and friendly staff. Food was excellent with lovely staff and good value for money. The red wine was particularly nice. Beautiful old world chateau kept spotlessly clean. Four poster bed, large room. Restaurant was fantastic with a fabulous 5 course meal with 3 complimentary bottles of wine for £40. Felt like a princess. Lovely location, period room in a Chateau with excellent restaurant, if a bit expensive at 45 Euros per person. Restaurant open on Monday when we visited. Would definitely recommend it. The food in the restaurant is superb, and very good value. We ate there every night..... Overall the staff in the hotel were very helpful and friendly and their service was excellent. The Chateau was fantastic. Room were great, swimming pool fab ! Food & wine excellent. Service excellent & friendly. The atmosphere & ambiance of the place was lovely. We have eaten here on previous occasions and love the restaurant and as one of us usually has to drive we stayed on this occasion in nice character room with canopy bed . The restaurant and saloon decor was exceptional - the best we have seen in France. The food preparation, presentation and taste was amazing. Well done to all the staff. The staff was friendly and coorperative. Our room was quiet big for a 3 star hotel, very clean. The breakfast was a standard 3 star breakfast, nothing more nothing less. The restaurant was great, food really good, great atmosphere. Really enjoyed our stay. Lady in restaurant very good really helpful. Ate at restaurant 3 evenings. Chateau de Cavanac was like a wish come true. The room was beautifully decorated and the restaurant was superb. A wonderful, peaceful stop on a busy holiday. Excellent conversion from chateau to hotel Interesting rooms and furnishings throughout Excellent dining room and menu Pleasant and competent staff. Very helpful staff, beautiful decor, the surrounding vineyards, the dining room, the wonderful food. Tasteful, comfortable and not over the top. Our Room (suite) was mimosa and we loved the ambience and the outside area. Dining was excellent and staff very nice and accommodating. Real French character accommodation. Restaurant was excellent. Very helpful staff. Secure parking and accommodation. Free wi fi. Loved the chateau, the way it had been set up as a hotel, the ambience, the excellent food and the attitude of the staff. We liked the chateau very much, lovely staff, wonderful food in the restaurant, great rooms, real value for money. The old-world charm of the hotel. The luxurious décor of the room. The excellent breakfast and generous dinner. Fabulous dinner in the picturesque restaurant, lovely room with canopy bed and view of the garden and vineyards. Fabulous place where we go for total relaxation and gourmet food with excellent local wines included. Nice location close to Carcassonne. Restaurant was absolutely fantastic, excellent value for money. The food (evening meal and breakfast), the staff, the rooms, the dining areas, the secure parking. Restaurant was closed the night we stayed so we ate in Carcassonne. Excellent room and breakfast. The Restaurant was the star here. A very traditional Banquet with local wine, Seafood and meats. The beautiful rooms, the setting in the countryside outside Carcassone and the brilliant food. Beautiful hotel. Approximately 5 minute drive to Carcassone. Staff was very friendly. Great food. Quiet. Tennis court, pool. Close to Carcassonne, Cathar Castles etc. Absolutely fantastic hotel, enjoyed every minute will save up to stay again. Lovely setting and very French. Huge rooms, very traditional and fab food. Pitch-sized bathrooms, elegant bedrooms and truely fantastic restaurant. Nice rooms, beautiful premises, great restaurant. We loved this hotel. The rooms were clean and spacious and the bathrooms were a good size. Very beautiful room, and the food of there restaurant is very well. Beautiful hotel. Dinner in the on site restaurant was wonderful. The location, atmosphere, restaurant!! Perfect wine !! Service. Food was fantastic, room beautiful & clean. The setting, and close proximity to Carcassonne. The rooms (Design), the Restaurant (Qualität). Lovely location.Excellent food. First class. it wasn't that I didn't like anything but I was disappointed that the grounds weren't as extensive as I had thought. No bar service available unless there was someone doubling on the reception desk. Nothing to dislike. It would be difficult to find any fault at all!. No dislikes at all!. Hotel restaurant is closed on Monday and there is not an alternative in the village although Carcassonne is only ten minutes drive away. No snack lunch available. The only irritant was that the restaurant is closed on Monday evening. Although this is stated in the publicity, it means having to hunt around after a long journey if a Monday arrival is unavoidable. Perhaps this policy could be varied during the high season?. Pool was a little chilly for August, breakfast should be include in room rate as it is twelve euros extra. Signage to Chateau is not easy to follow as there is a one way system to navigate around the village. The rooms could have done with a few rugs on the floor as the tiled floor was cold and not very cosy. It would have been nice to have tea/coffee making facilities in the room. More staff in the bar area were needed. On out last day we arrived for breakfast at the end of breakfast period, and the the lady serving breakfast huffed and puffed and made it very clear she wanted us to leave as quickly as possible. The staff overall were all lovely, but this lady left a bad final impression. Nothing - we loved it all !. There where many trees close to the swimming pool, which made the water quiet cool and it was difficult to find a spot in the sun. Arrived at hotel on a Monday. All the lights were off so it seemed very dark our first impressions were not great. However everything looked much better the next day when everything was brighter. Cover on bed a bit grubby. It was perfect. Modest breakfast (but acceptable). Don't buy your postcards in the hotel, unless they also sell you stamps! We were directed to buy stamps at a tabac - but many tabacs will refuse to sell stamps unless you buy your PCs there - indeed were dismissive and very rude!. Lack of refreshment facilities in room or hotel outside of restaurant hours. Using your directions, my satnav left me in the middle of nowhere about a mile from the chateau. Luckily I can speak French and managed to get directions from an old lady in the village. Nothing to dislike. Cannot think of anything. Nothing really,. Not as well signposted as it might be, but didn't in any way spoil the experience. No problems at all other than problems to all hotels in getting laundry done. Travelling 1000s of miles from home for several months - why don't they have more coin operated laundries for people to wash clothes. The pool that is showed in the reviews is not connected to the main building. It is a very short walk, but it is through a parking lot. Also, the address is Cavanac not Carcassone. Bar only open 2 hours a day and nowhere to get drinks even soft drinks. French pillows!!!! No-where to hang shower-head?. The reception was rather gloomy. Although you get a GPS, you still difficult to find it out. Wifi to be renewed every day... Expensive breakfast Very bad coffee No fresh fruit/ salad for breakfast. Pool could have used a solar blanket to help warm it up. Front staff a little snooty. Nothing.
