I wanted to be near the airport and was only there one night so can't give a true comment but I fopuind the staff to be attentive and rooms clean but only went for this as we got a special deal at approx 400 Y plus 100 Y for breakfast. I am sure the room price is a lot more than that normally as it is a very large hotel so doubt if we would have even considered it. The room was spacious, clean and beautiful. I travel a lot all over the world and the Howard Johnson was one of the nicest places I have ever been. I have paid double the money for less than half the room. I was extremely pleased with my stay. If I am ever in Shanghai again I will definitely stay there! I was 100% satisfied. Jerry Douglas.
all reviews » I travel a lot in Asia. I have never met so friendly and helpful people in the Concierge! These 3 good men speak good english, are helpful beyond expectations. They are the main reason why I now have been here 4 times in 2 months!. need to stay close to Hongqiao airport, this is excellent. rude by efficient shuttle bus. Good rooms with all comfort. Internet working good. not sure what is around either then industry. perfect interior, huge rooms, very good breakfast, English-speaking reception, location near airport and train station, absolutelly clean and quite. The best location in Shanghai - close to airport and railway station. Exelent staff. Perfect condition. - the distance to the hongqiao airport - the for-free shuttle service to the airport. Wonderfull hotel, wonderfull rapport quality price and wonderfull position. Excellent value for money. Excellent food and lovely luxurious rooms. Rooms in the front are very near to the roads that take continuous traffic to the airport and are very noisey, don't expect a good nights sleep. Everything was great. Nothing to complain about. Don't order sashimi. It's frozen, watery and fishy smell. Other things are fine in the restaurants. far from the city-center, nothing around. Well, you get what you pay for so everything within the limit of the budget. Everthing acceptable. Nothing. The hotel is a bit out of the way. Need more English understandable staff. more of a 4 star than a 5 star. Rooms need updating. The staff were so unfriendly and they did not give any attention to what our requirements are. Very difficult to find. Most taxi drivers did not know how to get to the hotel. No transport from the airport to the hotel as the taxi refused to go. The food in the coffee shop had almost no taste. The breakfast was more expensive than the buffet lunch?. Little run down. wifi facility not in rooms. so difficult to find when driving!!!! Restaurant awful, western Buffet restaurant none existent, no people dining anywhere very strange feeling to this hotel no atmosphere whatsoever!!!. i wanted some dinner from the 24h menu. The room service did not understand English. The receptionist did not take care of the situation despite my request. I gave up after calling 3 times. Not good. 1- No mini bar 2- No wireless connection in rooms 3- Rooms not very new. Poor wi fi Middle of nowhere. Not the standard I an used to meet at HJ hotels all over the world. Old traditional style, bad English, tired personell, I had to fight for a breakfast I already paid for and gotr confirmation on. I don think I will ever go back and I am also questioning how this hotel can be labled by HJ That is remarkable. Coming from Shang Ri La this was awful. The hotel was situated far away from the city centre. If we asked the front desk to arrange for a meter taxi, they alaways said there is no meter taxi's available at this hour and they have a hotel Taxi immediately available and it would cost us cheaper then the meter taxi, in fact it cost us double the amount of a meter taxi. I will never recommend this hotel.
