Although the building is old, the room was clean. The building is unique and has an old world charm. The internet was free and breakfast was included making it a good deal. This was my first visit to Thunder Bay so can't comment on the location of the hotel except for the fact that I chose it because it was on the waterfront - needs to capitalize on that. Staff very helpful and efficient.
all reviews » The hotel reminded me of when I was young and would travel with my family. We often stayed in older hotels. You had a stunning view from our window. The beds were new, clean and quite comfortable. Staff was very helpful. The first morning we were there our car wouldn't start. A staff member call caa, which is Canada's version of aaa. We had the car up and running within an hour. When we arrived to find out letsbookhotel.com had not sent notification to the hotel, the staff were very efficient in dealing with the situation and quickly assured us we would get a room; in fact we got 2 great rooms with a view of the lake. Front staff were very friendly and hospitable whenever I encountered them. Great location near water front, nice fountain, good restaurants nearby. Great view (if lakeside). We liked room decor but most people probably would not appreciate the eclectic mix of modern lcd and 50s furniture assortment. Spacious room (we had the family suite). Everything was good; I didn't expect the hotel to be this good at this price. The room was very clean, the bathroom especially. Beds were some of the best I've ever had in a hotel, even in much higher price ranges. Service was very, very friendly and helpful. The room was very spacious with great views of the lake. It is conveniently located in the centre of the city. The pool, hot tub, and sauna were nice to have as well. I would definitely stay again. large rooms ,good beds/linen, good air conditioning & wifi close to restaurants & beautiful waterfront park, good parking & access to main thourofares. It's an old building and looks a bit dated and tired but with some investment, could really be outstanding because of its uniqueness. We had a 19" old style tv in the room. Though the room was quite large the bathroom was tiny and had no room for any toiletries. But it was clean and the shower worked well. The old elevators were a little unnerving, But that became the adventure. Not enough parking on a weekend, especially as there was a wedding on Saturday. Staff little helpful. We asked if extension was possible, person at reception said that likely yes, would call back. Never called back to our room, next day person at front desk told us that of course this was not possible, basically laughing at us rudely "What are you thinking?". Pool really needs renovation but is spacious. Nothing. old elevator. slow elevator unsecured parking. Heat was to high, had windows open all night and was still too hot. Older hotel BUT Heritage place. Slow elevator. Older TV's. The air conditioner was very noisy. The room was clean but there was a dead fly on the windowsill for the whole time we were there. Would have liked, at least a small room service later at night. Would have liked a room where smoking was allowed. need more ice machines. Need of more lighting in the bedrooms to enable reading at night. Acoustic ceiling is dismal, particularly as there probably are original high ceilings being concealed. The decor in the lobby is (Blue paint, and classical figures) needs attention to something more subdued!. Next door people were noisy in the evening but security guard offered to keep an eye on their comings and goings. It was a young native family so kids were banging the door each time they went in and out. Asked for a waterfront room but didn't get it. Probably booked up as I was a last minute booking. Hotel was full when we were there. Water pipes very loud every time we (or adjoining rooms) flushed toilet. Ice-cold pool. No air conditioner in sleeping room. One can see the remnants of a once great hotel. Unfortunately, everything about this hotel looks a bit tired and in need of a revamp. Room was not cleaned properly. Trays were left in room that were clearly used from the night before. Food trays were left in hall more than 24 hours. Reported to front desk, but were still there when we left. Restaurant service was abysmal. Place was a little tired!. Hotel is over priced by factor 3! Rooms suffer from lack of maintenance. Hotel allows DOGS. Stayed on second floor with many rooms of dogs barking through the night at each other! Had to call front desk several times to no avail. Restaurant not very good and expensive. room was over priced,no lounge chair in room,windows did open,old tv-not enough channel selection,ice machine was on a different floor. The service and the staff were very rude then sent playpen up to us for a 2 month old baby that was disgusting dirty and smelled awful and took over 2 hrs to get it had to inquire about it again and was told by rude girl at counter if it wasn't there guess we didn't have one. What away to treat your guests. The management of this hotel is very poor. They don't know how to take a booking correctly. They consistently make mistakes on the bills. Older hotel, with some updates. No control of a/c or heat. Older windows. poor lighting. Completely uninterested staff. Although this hotel is remodeled train station, the rooms are still stuck in the seventies. The front desk people were nice, but everything else was lacking. We barely slept in the child sized beds. Would not stay here again.
