This was a great 2-night stay. With a short walking distance to Lake Luise and less hustle/bustle and cost compared to Fairmont Chateau it was a wonderful booking. Dinner, breakfast and staffing were tops. Food was well prepared from quality local ingredients. As well, it was a convenient walk to Fairmont Chateau for a special dinner and breakfast. all reviews » The King Room was largish, comfortable with mountain view. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. Excellent choices of quality food in restaurant. A spacious main lounge with log fire, a piano room and card room were furnished with carefully chosen items to suite this pleasantly dated accommodation. All of this within a short stroll to Lake Louise. Our three nights was not enough in this wonderful landscape. The Deer Lodge was exactly what we were looking for. It is affordable and just down the street from Lake Louise. The location is amazing! The room was small, which other reviewers noted but we went in expecting that and it didn't bother us - we weren't there to hang out at the hotel anyway! The food in the restaurant was quite good. The rooftop hot tub was wonderful!. Deer Lodge is a beautiful heritage property 5 minutes walk from Lake Louise. It has great food and magnificent views and very helpful staff. It has all the old-world charm with modern convenience. The large lounge area with the roaring fire is a great place to sit with a pre-dinner drink and reflect on the day. It was great not to have to find a parking space in the very crowded car park and being so close meant we could walk to the Lake after dinner when it was quiet. The bar shutting at 9pm, even to residents!. we really over spent our budget on this hotel and found we didn't get as many 'trimmings' as we did in cheaper accommodations elsewhere, I guess one pays a lot for location!. The rooms need a lot of work to bring them up to international standard. No TV or coffee in room,though it was available in the common room. Our room was on he side of the building where traffic was audible at certain times of the day with our balcony door open but it wasn't an issue especially since we could hear the nearby river too. Very long waits between courses at dinner. Noisy guests in one of the lounges near a guest room, even after 11:00 pm. Some traffic noise. Some rooms small but not ours. The bedroom was extremely small and up 2 flights of stairs - no lift. The bathrooms tended to be really really hot and stuffy. The check-in time I think is a bit late at 4pm, but we still managed to settle in our room at about 3pm instead so it was fine. It was a bit expensive, but you pay quality! :). The rooms were a bit small and sparse but very adequate for a few days. Lounges and communal areas made up for this as they were spacious and beautifully appointed. did not like the food in the restaurant. small menu. for fine dining restaurant could be better. Sorry, but it's my opinion. Deer Lodge is true to it's name, lots of wood (dark), and walls are thin. The week we were there, we had a problem with the bartender putting in the correct take away order, but otherwise staff was very professional and attentive. Thought breakfast was a little on the pricey side, other than that a great place to stay. Cost of meals was extortionate for couple from UK on limited budget. Also We were charged double the price for our room until I pointed it out to the receptionist. However once I brought it to their attention it was politely and quickly sorted out. would have liked a mini frig in the room. Rooms are small with no elevators to floors. The hot tub on roof top not working while we were there. The room was small and the wifi Internet was slow.. Only had a double bed and small room. No fridge in room. No TV in room. The food--thin steaks, hard omlette. No hairdryer. No TV or lift to help you with luggage. Also no tea/coffee making in the room. It was a surprise that there wasn't a TV in the room but there was a game room where we watched the NFL football game. The on sit resturant was expensive. The beds were old and quite uncomfortable and the rooms very small with no coffee making facilities. It was too warm in our room, and i couldnt adjust so i just opened a window. The hot tub did not have the jets working. The jacuzzi was one of the main reasons I booked the hotel in the first place. I was very disappointed. No microwave anywhere, my door was not locked when I first arrived at my room (someone could have been inside), my room was very small for how costly it was, there was no desk or chair if needed for working, there was no fan in the bathroom, and it was rather hot in the room (good thing the window could open). Hot tub tooooo hot and jets didn't work!. Our room was a little "tired", with a view of a brick wall from the window, but the charm of the hotel did grow on us during our stay.
