I have ticked City trip as there is no accurate choice. This is for the dedicated wwi enthusiast and the "In Flanders" museum & Mennin gate are within a two - five minute walk from the Alliance. For us vet's it is a must and quite moving. I was impressed by the good nature and warmth from the locals and the respect from the young. A lovely town & lovely people. The staff at our hotel were very friendly and helpful and went the extra mile to provide a meal on our late arrival. If you wan.
all reviews » Central location in Ypres. Clean, simple, comfortable, functional rooms with excellent shower. Breakfast was continental, boil your own eggs, cereals, juice, cold meats and cheese with fresh bread and each table had its own bowl of fresh bread rolls and pastries. Very nice and as substantial as you want it to be. There was a bar area but so close to the town centre there are many restaurants and bars to spend time in so I never saw anyone using it although it was possible. Also no evening meals. Very close to Menin Gate and easy to get to the ceremony and Battlefields of Ypres and Ypres Salient. Also 2 hours from the Somme in France. Receptionist very good, spoke about 3 or 4 languages as everyone does in Belgium. Breakfast very nice also. Good value for money. Would come back again and probably will, but not next year, which is Centenary Year of start of WW. Excellent place to stay to do a Battlefields Tour. Clean and comfortable, staff gave a good welcome with excellent English, parking in Ypres is OK as you can park safely just the other side of the Menin Gate about 4 minutes away. Location for centre excellent and 2 minutes away from Menin Gate. If you are visiting Ypres with an interest in WW1 then suggest you go to Tyne Cot cemetery as this is one of the most moving places to see. We made a late booking for a couple of nights & choseThe Alliance as it ticked all the boxes of what we wanted & werent disappointed. We opted for the 'small' room but it was actually no smaller than many we have stayed in, it was situated at the back with views over the roofline & quiet. Definately on our list of places we would stay again. Central location, very helpful staff especially in respect of secure parking for a motorcycle. Good breakfast and clean room. Our room was third floor twin which was roomy with private, but not en-suite bathroom (not a problem). Just glad we didn't have to use the fire escape.!. This was our second stay at this hotel. The room was clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was very good and enjoyable. The short walk into the town center, together with the price, makes this hotel very competitive. We will stay again when we return to Ypres. We were perfectly happy with our room and the cleanliness and facilities in general. Breakfast was fine, and typical French/Belgian with nice bread, cheese, cold meats, fruit juice, boiled eggs, croissants etc. Rooms 13, 14, 15 & 16 are definitely superior. the hotel is in an ideal location with ease to the shops etc, the rates were value for money. Staff very friendly and allowed us to park our bikes in the garage, will use this hotel again. Nothing was to much trouble for the staff, well done!. I enjoyed everything. My companion being my daughters partner was also very pleased. The purpose of our stay was the Menin Gate ceremony for three evenings and visiting all the local Great War cemeteries and places of military interest. Clean and tidy, nice breakfast, overall value for money, Host was nice and friendly, as we are bikers it was nice to have use of the hosts garage - good place in general and wonderfully situated to the centre & resturants and bars. The staff were very friendly and most helpful especially when we needed another nights stay and they were fully booked.The dining room decor and the breakfast were delightful ! The location is excellent. We enjoyed the central location and the breakfast was excellent. We struck one of the hottest days of July and found the downstairs room very hot but also very comfortable with a good sized bathroom. Good reception service, garaging for our motorcycles was excellent, Rooms comfy and clean. Breakfast very ample and in superb environment. very handy for the Market Square and Menin Gate. The hotel location in the heart of Ypres was perfect. The rooms were very comfortable. The mangers of the hotel were very hospitable and friendly and made sure we were well looked after. The main course was very, very good and well presented. Some fruit at breakfast would be appreciated. Bed pillows a little too hard. Not a big negative just something for travellers with cars or transort to consider. We were lucky and managed to park outside on the street for as long as we needed at a cost of only a few euros. Couldn't open the windows and it was very humid, so hard to get cool enough to sleep. Nothing really if I wanted to be picky parking is a short walk away!!. For the price there was nothing not to like. It would be nice to have uk tv channels when the weather is unkind, and when you return to your room in the evening. And be able to make a nice cup of tea. One of the couples travelling with us were given a tiny room that should really be a single. The other couple were in a room without an opening window, so only ventilation was above the door, and their radiator couldn't be turned off. The 'nearby' free parking is a good 5-10 minute walk away, but is quite safe so overall not really a problem. maybe tea and coffee in the rooms, that's it nothing else. When the bath water started to get a bit cooler I had to run more hot water myself <smiles> Perhaps a handmaiden needed. No tea/coffee making facilities in the room not a huge issue but as the bar area was closed at 10pm when we got back in from being out an about it would have been nice to have a brew. Coffee and other hot drinks are available to buy from the breakfast bar if staff are on duty but a kettle and tea/coffee making facilities would improve an otherwise excellent hotel. tea & coffee facilities in the room would have been very welcome. Nothing. Slight smell from drains in courtyard. Plastic bed coating made for sweaty nights sleep. Nothing. I liked everything!. The rooms our group used faced onto a seating area that was not covered. This area was used by other residents for smoking and talking on phones, even early in the morning waking several of the group on more than one morning (we stayed for 4 nights). This spoilt an otherwise pleasant stay. 2nd flights of stairs very steep. No vehicle parking. Rather steep stairs. Nothing much, rooms were a little small but the large bed made up for this. People smoking on communal Patio outside room. stairs fairly steep - with NO lift. nothing. No comments. On-street parking - not clear where we could or could not park. nothing. 1. Bar facilities not up to standard of local options...not a major problem because those options were plentiful. 2. Web site said bike hire was available but I had to go to an external organisation to hire a bike. . Nothing. No lift facility. Difficult for handicaped guests. Be sure to inform hotelier of special needs when booking, so that ground floor rooms can be allocated. nothing. Curtains and bedspread were very old, no night table, very sparce but clean room. Nothing. Just a small point and that is I would have liked tea/coffee making facilities in the room itself. Coffee making facilities in the room would have been nice. couldn't stay longer. Nothing!. Noisy Street - disco music until early hours some nights - not the hotel's fault. No drink making equipment,no parking,very hot in hot weather,no fan,no large plates or forks at breakfast.
