The hotel was conveniently located with well fitted out room, and available excellent restaurant which is why we chose Hadley's. The staff were very personal and willing to help and advise as required. The historic nature of the building was very pleasing. After the incident with the rude duty manager, I spoke with another staff member, who was very apologetic and went over and above to find an upgrade. We were moved to an apartment in the newer part of the hotel which was spacious and more than adequate.
all reviews » We requested a porta cot for our baby and our room was very cramped. We were upgraded to a more spacious room at no extra charge. The extra space made our stay a lot more enjoyable. The lady behind the bar is excellent, as were the reception and restaurant staff. The suite is spacious, but under new hotel management more will be done. If you are looking for old style accommodation this is the place. The antique furniture is beautiful and the rooms large with high ceilings. Convenience of location -close to city centre and all that entails. Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable bed. Quiet room. I was in Hobart for a medical appointment and just needed some relaxed/easy type of overnight accommodation. The room did not have opening windows to outside fresh air and also the airconditioning did not function correctly in terms of noise level, proper cooling or fresh air input. The photos on the web site are misleading - the standard room is tiny and internally situated in a noisy part of the hotel. When I approached the very rude duty manager on the first night he said "all hotels misrepresent their rooms with carefully taken photos to appear better than they are, so too bad that's the room you get" - I later found out it was his last shift so he clearly didn't want to leave a good impression!. There were some house-keeping issues with the suite, but these have been acknowledged by management. There is no digital TV so the reception is poor. Could be more staff at reception for quicker service. Although I did not need to access anything from the bar fridge - it was empty. I did think a small rubbish bin in the bathroom would have been good to deposit facial cleansing tissues. Car parking is an issue. Stayed twice. First time on the first floor facing the laneway. Very busy with Pub noise next door and the creaking gate - not much sleep. Second time third floor and facing street. Again the windows rattled all night because it was windy- again not much sleep. Also need to update TVs. -Breakfast was awful (orange-pink scrambled eggs, uncooked bacon, etc) -Housekeeping hadn't cleaned thoroughly before our stay. Hallways need updating and rooms while nice also need updating. Shower screen nearly fell on my feet while having a shower!. No plug in the bath. Crack in the bath which I guess is why there was no plug. There should have been a note. The phone didn't work. Advertised as air conditioned but it didn't work and as having dvd which it didn'T. Neither worried us but when it is advertised it should have these things. Rooms fronting Murray Street are extremely noisy. Not sure of solution but staying in these not recommended if you are a light sleeper. Only thing we had trouble with was our key card to our room wouldn't work and the parking was a bit of a hassle .but not far to walk. No handy plug to plug in kettle, had to unplug the fridge and place the kettle on the floor to use. Housekeeping was not all that great. Room is very dark, only weak lamp lighting. Can't think of any. They forgot to make make up our room on the last day of our stay. Not being told of the charge for car parking, just given the entry card. The long black hairs attached by static to the bathroom wall behind the door, along with the black smudge (mould}. Pamphlet in room promoting stocked mini-bar when no such service existed. Hairdresser did not work, reception were helpful and brought up one to the room quite quickly. I do not recall breakfast being an option at time of booking. I would always include breakfast if it was an option so slight issue with booking site. room was not well cleaned, look in the cupbards. Very squeaky floor entering the bathroom. dark room bedside lights did not work. Meal was shocking. Ordered a medium lamb. Was presented a blue lamb. This had been cut open so chef could easily see this was not medium. I am a chef so that wasn't hard to miss. restaurant. totally worn out bed no air conditioning controls for unitx2 outdated tv screens limited channels some lightnot working fridge not turned on. I did not like that after arriving from a rather long and stressfull trip .I had to lug my bags from the street to my room. It set the wrong tone to the begining of our stay.had it been otherwise i may have stayed longer at the hotel. Room is old, lamp not working properly. Hotel is old & tired looking. Bathroom shower needs a good clean. Room required some maintenance ie. windows rattled ,toilet ran 24/7, bedside light shorting out. TV outdated and not tuned properly. Room was cluttered with large furniture. Not advised of parking charge before booking room had light switches that didn't operate in the room so all lamps had to be turned off individually and also had items on the floor maybe missed cleaning floor?. Carpets were taken up and replaced in the hotel entrance after 10pm at night and the noise was loud and lasted throught out the night - we heard this from our room on the 2nd floor facing the courtyard. Very inconsiderate!. No parking, out of date interior. My room was a dark box. Room on first night was extremely noisy. Staff unorganised on arrival. Had to request bathroom items that were not replenished after 2 days of room being cleaned. the noise from the street below as we were facing st Davids cathedral. The windows were very dirty and if you were a tourist and wanted to see the cathedral it would have been hard as they hadn't been cleaned in a while. Noise, lack of facilities - like aircon and a fold-out to hold the luggage. Ordered dinner for 2 and after 3 calls to desk who were lovely which then put us through to kitchen in a two hour period was hung up on after rudely answering he would look in to it. After another 20 minutes of waiting we rang desk and cancelled our order. The staff on the reception were lovely and apoligised. I was dissappointed to find that I could not get a reduction in price even though I am a member of RACT. Why not?. The rooms were outdated, beds uncomfortable, the shower door was so slim water went all over the bathroom floor, the kettle seemed so old it looked dirty. Old facilities, unclean Small rock s. Room poky, only one bedside light, free WiFi in lobby is not really free at all, room advertised on letsbookhotel.com as "with minibar and DVD player" - were not present. The hotel in old and decrepit. One gets the inptession that management is screwing as much out of it as possible with little intention of providing genuinly good accomodation. Everything creaked and groaned. The air con stank and had to be cleaned. The hook on the back of the door was a nail. There was a raw plug inthe tiles in the bath/shower and a missing soap dish. There was a switch but no ceiling light. One of the light diffuser in the bathroom was cracked an came with loud thump. We asked for a king bed and a view and we received a small double looking at a brick wall and no tv. Managing staff, over booked hotel. I was charged an extra night even after changing and confirming the change with staff over the phone. I was over charged for the 2/4 rooms I booked. No parking available and noisy from Buffett rooms need a make over for the price charged. The room didn't feel like it was worth the price. The staff were completely unwilling to demonstrate any thing beyond a perfunctory service.
