We were originally meant to only stayed 4 nights but we stayed the entire 8 of our holidays! It is definitely worth the price you pay. Our room was serviced everyday by the friendly house keepers and were always greeted by the friendly, helpful service desk people. The people at the service desk will always help you book tours, taxi, shuttle buses and all. Webber whom was a staff member was mainly a huge help to my partner and I!! all reviews » Absolutely loved our stay at the Rydges Esplanade Resort. The staff were helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We checked in prior to 2pm due to a flight reschedule and even though the hotel was close to full the staff did everything they could to get us into our room as quickly as possible which was greatly appreciated. The rooms were very clean and spacious. We had a mountain view room which had stunning views of Cairns at night. If your out during the day, I'd recommend this. We had a lovely room with beautiful views overlooking the bay. The walk to town along the esplanade was just the right distance for an enjoyable stroll. The hotel was also close to important amenities such as a small supermarket and chemist in Lake Street at the rear, and a cafe that served meals across the road on the esplanade. We enjoyed our stay very much. Everything. The desk staff was extremley helpful and professional. Everything was beautiful and clean. The hotel was a good 4 star property and I would probably give it a bit higher rating if you compare it to the Melbourne and Adelaide 4 star I booked. That should have been 2 0r 3 stars and stated 4 star ratings. Were allocated a slightly ageing but very clean comfortable and well equipped room with a pleasant outlook across the Esplanade to the ocean. Located in pleasant surrounds - a 10 -15 minute walk to the heart of the city. Only stayed overnight but would certainly consider as a base for a longer stay in Cairns. We had booked a garden view room on a low level but were upgraded to an ocean view room on the top floor. A lovely surprise. The views were fantastic. The room was very clean and the staff friendly. I was on my own. It would appear to me that more consideration should be given to placement of guests. The spa was over chlorinated and the fumes burnt ur nose. Everything was a little dated but generally still in good condition. I was a priority guest member but wasn't offered any of the benefits such as a welcome drink and 1pm check out. Sometimes understaffed main desk. Poor choice of tv stations. Too much sport, missed channel 72. Plenty of coffee and tea but hardly any sugar. Some of the mini bar items were past the use by date. The Internet cost was outrageous. The room facilities and design is a bit old to me. Mattress too soft. Otherwise it was perfect. Rooms are on the smaller side. One morning around 8:30am when everone was rushing to join tours and go out for the day only one lift was working . A very rude porter forced his way into an already crowded lift causing a small child to be pushed uncomfortably into a corner . When the lift stopped for guests on a lower floor , they could not enter . No table and chairs on the balcony. Pillows could have been a bit more comfortable. One elevator was playing up a bit - wasn't game to use it. mini bar left little room in fridge, leaving. nothng. The hotel is not really close to the centre. However. it does not really matter, as Cairns is very small. Nothing. Fan in bathroom on all the time , noticeable when trying to get to sleep. Staff more matter of fact than friendly. Internet too expensive and cost bears no relationship tp the price paid by hotel to provide it. Its time hotels got off thtis particular roundabout and included internet for free. Disturbances by the porters to room. - Beds are much too soft. - Oldish furniture in bedroom. - Not that close to the town center. - Wifi is not free. - Restaurant is too expensive. - A/C can't be regulated that well. Needed some cleaning in place eg - on roof around air conditioning vents where extremly dirty. The location was a little far from the town centre, so far to much walking. The location was too far from the main facilities - Cruise ship terminal, shops, Casino etc. One female bar attendant refused to serve us at the swim up bar at 5.45pm insisting it closed at 5pm even though the information booklet and sign on the glass said 6pm closing. Nothing in particlar. Bit out of the way. no free wifi in rooms - many others now have this and for travellers makes communication much easrier.

Information about the area

Cairns is known as the gateway to Tropical North Queensland and is located approximately 1700km north of Brisbane and 2500km north of Sydney.

With it's ideal location looking over the ocean out to the Great Barrier Reef, Rydges Esplanade Resort Cairns is only a few steps along the esplanade to the night markets and lagoon.

Things to do in the area include Skyrail & Scenic Rail to Kuranda, Green Island, Fitzroy Island, the Great Barrier Reef, World Heritage Rainforest, white water rafting, hot air ballooning, sky diving, Mossman Gorge and The Atherton Tableland.

Travelling information

Turn left at the first set of traffic lights onto Captain Cook Highway. Continue four (4) Blocks to McKenzie Street and turn left. Continue three (3) blocks until you intercept the Esplanade, then turn right. Continue to the resort, located opposite the tennis courts.

Airport shuttle service is approx AUD 10 per person one way or approx AUD 20 per person return and can be booked online as part of your online accommodation booking, or by emailing us with your flight number and arrival time.
