  We stayed in the new Silver Suite - it was extremely comfortable with a most beautiful view across the water. Needless to say, but the food was magnificently presented and absolutely delicious. The staff were exceptionally courteous and delightfully friendly. You felt you were staying with friends.   A return visit for 3 nights, after a 16 year gap! The hotel has changed hands since then and is almost unrecognisable from the previous visit. We had a room with a colourful garden view and enjoyed 3 peaceful nights sleep. Lovely grounds overlooking Lake Windermere and hills beyond, 2 comfortable lounges, a lovely outside terrace and large conserv... was die leute sagen » atory with large panoramic windows used as a dining area for all meals. The food and service was excellent. Plenty of choice for the self service buff - I stayed here by myself for 2 nights. I had a standard single room, which was just what I need with plenty of space too. The beds were comfy, tea and coffee making facilities and some delicious homemade shortbread provided too. I felt very welcome from the minute I stepped through the door, especially as it was the first time I'd stayed away on my own. Nothing was an issue, and with the perfect weather it was pleasant to sit outside in the garden and enjoy a view of Lake Windermere. Service was

  Everything! The staff were wonderful and the food excellent. - Felt more like a 4* plus hotel, not a 3. Nice details like great towels and fresh milk available for in-room coffee. Quality decor in room, nice bathroom too. Very convenient to town without being in it.

Our rooms were spotless and very comfortable. The location was ideal for walking into the shopping area of town and close surrounding areas. The location of the hotel is perfect, just a minute away from the lake. Breakfast was very nice and the access to the SPA at the Old McDonald is the cherry on top. We really felt like we were staying in a 5 star hotel.

It's close to everything at Waterhead and only a mile from Ambleside, with good bus service to everywhere in the Lake District.
