  We were immediately upgraded at no extra cost due to no availability of non smoking room. The reception and conciege staff were excellent and very cooperative. The rooms were spacious, clean and well equipped. The location was excellent for shopping and sightseeing.   Staff at this accommodation is so helpful and kind. It is hard to find at first. The taxi we took from the airport (170rmb which was scam) can not find the place he had to call the hotel and drop us at one of the entrance. There are two entrances.   Our entire family enjoyed our stay at the Peninsula. The room was spacious, clean and thoughtfully designed. I love how the desk area is separated from the rest of the room. It allows me to do some work while the kids are watching a movie.   We stayed for 5 nights from March 28 to April 2. They granted us all our requests: big carpeted room with king-sized bed and nice view. Thanks Ms Jenny of reservations whom I had been coordinating with via email! The hotel is very near the Chongwenmen subway station (lines 2 & 5). Please make sure you get your ic card (reloadable subway ticket... vad folk säger » ). It is the the cheapest and most efficient way to get around Beijing. You can also use it in buses. The hotel is also directly connected to New Worl - The staff, especially Julia, was quick to respond to our needs and complaints. We were transferred to the upper floor when we complained about the noise from the renovation and to a non-smoking floor as requested. The room and the double bed are big and comfortable, the linens and bath towels are fresh. Free coffee and tea. The tv channels include hbo and English news.   We had booked a 2-bedroom family suite, which was apparently not available when we arrived--so for the same price were upgraded to a junior suite (living room, br, 1-1/2 baths) and adjacent deluxe room...very elegant and even more luxurious than we'd expected.   They upgraded me to executive suite - it was a pleasant surprise. Also, I was super happy with their flexibility. I had to run errands and couldn't get back to the hotel to check out before 2 PM and they extended my stay without charging me extra. Really thoughtful and the staff was truly amazing. They upgraded me in an executive room, the swimming pool was quite big and the staff has been very friendly (despite some problems in the communication).
