We were traveling with my parents on a special trip and Mario and Valentina couldn't have made us feel more welcome and comfortable.   we liked everything about Palazzo Degli Abati. The wonderful cave room was beautifully renovated and the owners were extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast, the best we had on our travels around Southern Italy, was eaten on the terrace in the sun with a wonderful view over the Sassi. He has lived in Matera for 22 years and has been in charge of the restorer action of the property. It is incredible. My wife was overcome with tears of joy when she saw the room. Generous and helpful, he booked us tables at the most interesting restaurants nearby and filled us in on the fascinating history of this interesting town (over grappa). The rooms themselves embody this history and are each different, without sacrificing luxury. Simplicity as well as attention to details. Thoroughly recommend.
