We were traveling with my parents on a special trip and Mario and Valentina couldn't have made us feel more welcome and comfortable. The breakfast was home made by Mario's wife from some of the freshest sources in Matera and every delicious and subtle detail was appreciated. Valentina spent the entire afternoon with us - We travelled 3 weeks through the Basilicata and liked every moment of it. But Matera and the Torretta ai Sassi B&B were the absolute highlights of our trip.   we liked everything about Palazzo Degli Abati. The wonderful cave room was beautifully renovated and the owners were extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast, the best we had on our travels around Southern Italy, was eaten on the terrace in the sun with a wonderful view over the Sassi.   The was my best hotel experience, ever! This place exceeded every expectation I imagined. The owner, Fernando, was charming and a delight to talk to. He has lived in Matera for 22 years and has been in charge of the restorer action of the property. It is incredible. My wife was overcome with tears of joy when she saw the room. The rooms are made out of c - Host and owner Fernando sets the benchmark of hospitality in Italy. Generous and helpful, he booked us tables at the most interesting restaurants nearby and filled us in on the fascinating history of this interesting town (over grappa). The rooms themselves embody this history and are each different, without sacrificing luxury. Simplicity as well as attention to details. Thoroughly recommend.

  Our hosts, Aldo and Rosa, made our stay in Matera memorable for all the right reasons. From Aldo's kind greeting, complete explanation of all the facilities and help to find the secure parking for our car (he even accompanied me to it, organised a cheap special rate for our 2 days, and then walked back to the B&B with me - 10 minutes walk) to ... vad folk säger » Rosa's breakfasts and her kind attention to detail. The room had a super balcony overlooking the Sassi, cathedral and a busy street with plenty of lif - We loved everything about this place. The apartment itself was spacious and clean; the balcony, looking out over the sassi and the Duomo, was fabulous and perfect for an afternoon aperitivo. The cafe/bar downstairs was great and run by a friendly woman. Best of all were Aldo and Rosa... the best hosts ever!
