    The vegetarian temple food was excellent. Opportunity to take part in prayer ceremony. View of the garden from the room was excellent. We were fortunate to be allocated a large room with private facilities and view of the garden. Temple breakfast includes traditional vegetarian dishes, and an excellent tofu.     The morning prayers were very interesting. There are two parts - chants at the prayer room, followed by the fire ritual at a shrine beside the temple. It can take more than an hour so it may not be appealing to those who are not interest or impatient. The temple organises a night walk every month during what they call the Kobo Daishi day but I have no idea when that is - perhaps the full moon - Koyasan is absolutely beautiful, and definitely worth a trip out of the hustle and bustle of Osaka. Eko-in was very good. A beautiful temple in lovely surroundings and very peaceful. The staff were very friendly and polite. I was a bit nervous about the shared bathroom, but it didn't end up being too bad and I actually ended up having a wonderful relaxing soak in the bath on my own. The other concern I had was about the food as it is vegetarian buddhist cuisine and I'm not a fan of tofu! But ag

    Unlike many other visitors to Koyasan we decided to stay two nights and to enjoy the temple lodging even more. Although it was still winter (snow and below zero temperatures), the room was well heated. All the other areas of the temple were not heated, but after being in the onsen this caused no problem whatsoever. As vegetarians traveling in Japan you have to look for trul - We booked a room with private toilet, so we had an advantage over the others. The temple is unbelievable beautiful. Everywhere you turn you just will be astonished about all that figures, beautiful rooms, relics etc. Also they have 3 beautiful gardens designed by a japanese star garden designer. We participated in the morning prayer which was a totally new experience and i can recommend that to everyone. Also we took the calligraphy class. Friendly monks who try their best to help but English levels are basic so don't expect any conversations outside of what they expect to discuss with you (check in/out, explain the facilities and food etc). You need to remember it is a temple and not a five star hotel. The room was a little cold at first but the heater quickly war - A very nice place to stay at, the building, an old temple, is beautiful, and located close to the important sights of mount Koya. The staff does not speak English very well, but is very helpful. The possibility to attend the morning prayers in the temple (at 6.30am) is worth getting up early (don't forget to bring a coin for the offering).
