We hired a car (40E pd) to explore the island. Perfect size to do that. -

We seemed to be the only visitors on a Friday night in early May - hard
to understand, given the quality of the place. Worth remembering that
this is a B&B, so it took a while to establish that we could have an
evening meal there. Once we did it was very good and served in a room
with stunning views.

We left the guys at home and did a sister trip across Italy, which commenced in Naples. This classy five star hotel was a fabulous way to deal with jet lag! Arriving a bit earlier than expected, the hotel staff treated us to cappuccino and cake while they readied our beautiful corner room complete with a spectacular view of the Castel dell'Ovo.

The Grande Hotel Vesuvio is truly grand! It is an elegant top of the
line hotel with a friendly and helpful staff. We were upgraded to a
suite upon arrival and had two large rooms beautifully furnished. They
supply their guests with comfy terry robes and slippers and nice
toiletries. Wi fi was free. The rooms are kept very clean also. We had a
balcony on the front of the hotel and looked out on the waterfront with
its boats, a castle that is lit at night, and Vesuvius looming in the
distance. T

The hotel is well positioned - about a 8-10minute walk from town and bus/train station but therefore away from busy streets. The view across to Vesuvius is fantastic. Friendly staff - we felt really like at home. Location - close to the beach, where you can find good restaurants. Two thermal pools (small but quite enough taking into account size of the hotel) - one is indoor and another is partly with roof - we could bathing regardless of weather.
