we chose tho stay here as we didn't want to be right in the middle of town. It' s a 25 minute walk to the Minster though there is a bus stop right outside if you want save your legs. The location was nice & quiet with hardly any traffic. The room was large, clean & comfy & there was plenty of nice food for breakfast. The hosts were friendly & helpful & were able to give us some really useful information. We will definitely stay there again when we return to york next year.

Staff exceptionally friendly and helpful .
My wife is disabled and the disabled room we booked was superb , lovely and warm on arrival with fabulous decor .
The bar/restaurant is very homely and olde worlde .

We liked the cleanliness, décor and comfort of the accommodation, the friendliness of the staff and both the quality and quantity of the meals for the price paid which was excellent value. Everything was so perfect, we opted to stay an extra night. Highly recommended, especially if visiting Castle Howard and the surrounding area.

The Grainary is a working farm, with a B&B on the side, so if you like the atmosphere of a farm, off on the edge of the moors, you'll love it. Children are especially well catered for, as they have every imaginable farm animal in the fields near the house, plus dogs, rabbits, a ferret and certainly one or two I've missed. My wife and I stayed at the fifth milestone for two nights. This was our first get away for a long time and i couldn't be happier with our choice.
