The Astoria is an excellent hotel, clean, quiet, well located and excellently run. The breakfast was exquisite. I hope to return.

I intended to leave my luggage till later in the day but I was told the hotel closed at 2 oClock. There is no staff in the hotel apart from mornings. I had to take my bag to the left luggage at Hamburg HBF , central train station. The air freshener in the room's smell is a rather strange odour , Could do with changing it for another odour.

This is an older German gasthäus so it is what it is. However, you would be hard put to find a modern hotel as clean as this place. It was spotless. My room, #21, was very quiet and comfortable. I also felt very safe in the area. There is a smell that is apparent when the room is shut up for a while, but again, not because of lack of cleanliness. Leave the windows open while you are out and you will be fine. This place is close to everything including some very good restaurants. Would return without hesitation.

It is really clean, room is nice really close to Hamburg hbf and you can walk everypart of the city. Also heating system and wifi was perfect. People are very kind and helpfull :) good as 5 star hotel :)
Great location (5 minutes walk from central station in the nice St. Georg area near lots of restaurants and shops), friendly staff, spacious room, quiet at night as room looked out onto central courtyard.
The staff was exceptionally helpful (from where to eat, harbour information, just excellent advice) and the location in the city was great.
I've stayed here numerous times, love the central location near the main train station and the happening street nearby with cafes, bars and restaurants. Staff is friendly and helpful. Never tried the breakfast as I usually go to one of the nearby cafes or bakeries due to sleeping in. It's always my first choice to stay here. Free wifi. Some rooms have no bathroom, so you need to make sure what you're after...

The hotel was just renewed: my room was new and clean. definitively it worths value. It is located close to the main train station and in a nice area. A car park is available within few steps. I can recommend this hotel.

Friendly, understanding, helpful staff who gave great directions and was easy to get the key after-hours when we had a late check-in time. Loved the big bed and spacious room and service, delicious breakfast!
Easy to find hotel - near St George church, right side) Near Main Train station, 10 min walk to city center, 3 min to Alster Lake. Restaurants and supermarket are near too. Single room was not small, clean toilet on the floor. Breakfast was good enough.

This accommodation is very close to major tourist sights, the central train station, and shopping. It was a big room with adequate facilities. The manager was really friendly and helpful. it is basic, but for this price in the middle of Hamburg, this makes it very cost effective. WiFi worked efficiently.
the area around the accommodation is somewhat questionable, but we had no problems personally. the proximity to everything makes this OK.
Within walking distance from the center. There is a free public parking (6 spaces) though it is usually occupied during daytime. The shared toilet was extremely clean. Large room with a sofa and two armchairs.
The furniture was a bit 'old-fashioned'.

Great place to stay near the center and main station. My room was in the back and very quiet, despite the fact that the center and station is nearby. The whole place is decorated with obscure feature film posters, and gives the place a homy touch. The reception is hospitable and the breakfast very decent.

I found it nice to be contacted by the hotel concerning arrival time, so they could supervice me about how to get the key, if they were not there. They mailed me a supergood "how to find the hotel" instruction. It is very easy to find if you arrive at the Hauptbahnhof. Nice and quiet area, with some good restaurants around.

Basic but it has everything you need - even a hairdryer. Very nice and helpful staff (including to my dog!), clean, quiet, great location (though parking is a bit of a challenge but you are, after all, right in the center of Hamburg!). Incredible deal for that price: would come again!

The proprietor was very helpful and let me keep the room an extra day free of charge to store my bag until my afternoon flight. Location is excellent, steps away from Hbf, museums and other attractions. Overall, it was worth the money, but just realize you're not going to get any extra frills here.
The room was tiny (bed and shower all in one space, toilet down the hall). The walls were paper thin (could hear phone conversations all night and piano playing in the day). No mini-fridg, soap, shampoo or any other basic amenities provided.

It is basic but worth the costs.
Guests smoking on the roof-garden(rather few steps, where people get on passing through their room windows) and smoke fills up your room. During the weekend lot of late night noise made by guests on roof garden till early morning hours.
Convenient location in St George, close to the HH central station.
Rather somber atmosphere and poor value for money given facilities are basic and there are better cheap HH options.
