  Cleanest and most modern hostel I've ever stayed in. The place has clearly been renovated/upgraded recently and it's lovely. I was really impressed. The room ac had heat and cool, which is apparently rare in Australia where most ac usually only cools a room. The restaurant was very well priced (eating out is always expensive in Oz) and the food was very good. - The service from Peter the manager was excellent. When we arrived there, my girlfriend was ill, he made a couple of phonecalls to doctors free of charge. When we got back at the hostel, he saw that my girlfriend was still not feeling better, so he upgraded our double room to a better room away from all the noise from the reception. Thanks a lot for this excellent service Peter and the rest of the staff!

  I was travelling with my 84 yr old mother and hadn't booked anywhere. We were a bit apprehensive but we're so welcomed and felt very safe. The accomodation has no frills but the cleanliness was 100% compared to some 4*hotels we stayed in. Appearances can be very deceptive. Staff were extremely respectful, professional and friendly. The staff was helpful and even gave us a night's reimbursement when our tour reservations fell through.

  Awesome garden area with hamics, a bbq with tables and chairs etc. Huge guest kitchen with everything required should you wish to cook your own meals. Everything was very clean. Overall very reasonable for the price. - The grounds of the hostel are just beautiful. We arrived in the evening and the late checking service was well organised.

  Our stay at the Friendly Hostel was fantastic. Gary was immediately helpful and attentive when he picked me and my girlfriend up from the bus station.   Charming, quaint and quiet. We have been to Ryan's Rest twice and will continue to book rooms there whenever we visit Cairns. Our well mannered little dog was as welcome as we were.   I loved the barbie on Good Friday. The food was great, music was good and bar prices were affordable. My daughter loved the swimming pool. - Brilliant facilities for a backpackers, very clean and comfortable helpful reception staff who even gave us a transfer to our event.
