  Excellent location - walking distance to shops, restaurants and farmers market at nearby Third Street Promenade, as well as the Santa Monice Pier amusement park and beach boardwalk (with bike rentals nearby). Relaxing, nicely designed hotel with great views of the ocean. Nice gym (1st hotel gym I've been to with a rowing machine!) and pool area.   The connoisseur was extremely helpful and a pleasure to deal with. The folks at the front desk and valet parking were also very friendly and helpful.   Staying at shangri la is probably the best so far. The necessities are well handled and customer service is just brilliant. Like any other shangri la around the world, this branch also offers the same quality. Obviously there are many variations on the layout, service and sizes. But that didn't bother us.   The staff were fabulous, attentive, helpful, went the extra mile. Parking was easy, friendly, went the extra mile. Everyone called me by name! That matters. Room service food was yummy, elegant. I will return as soon as I can schedule it. - Everything! My room, though not large, was beautifully appointed with a deck and a panoramic view of the beach and ocean. I could see past the Ferris Wheel at the Santa Monica Pier! The room service was outstanding and breakfast at the gourmet restaurant was wonderful. Each staff member I met was warm, friendly and extremely professional. I would definitely return again and again!
