I have stayed in around 20 different yha hostels in the world and this is the best I have ever stayed in. Excellent security ( all points of entry are covered including your dormitory!! Believe me, not all hostels offer that). State of the art kitchen (huge with all equipment you can dream of like smoothie blenders), regularly cleaned by hostel staff, clean bathrooms, but most of all excellent atmosphere with lots and lots of solo travellers. all reviews » Located a short walk to upper broadway which is jam packed full of everything u could ask for. Everything !! short walk to the #1 subway line which takes u all the way down to battery park. There are housing projects directly behind thebuilding, but there was no trouble at all & that just added to the whole atmosphere of staying in ny. They put on several events on each day & night so u get to meet a lot of other travelers & explore in a group. There is an outlet & little shelf . It was an excellent stay. The location is great near the 103rd street one line. It's not a 10 minute walk it is much shorter. Had a 6 bed coed room which was great, comfortable mattresses, great roommates and lockers. Do bring your own padlock and earplugs. What I also liked were the many power sockets in de room. In my room you had two near the bed and a couple in the room. So phone, camera and tablet charging is no problem. The shower and toilet were area were close by and also clean. Breakfa. Pretty much everything. The rooms and bathrooms were always kept clean. Staff were helpful. I had the premium room and breakfast was included which I thought was good. Canteen has a good selection of food and drinks. If you're bothered by outside noise if the window is open (which you'd get anywhere) or people coming in at night, take some ear plugs and a eye mask, I did and worked a treat. Jerry's grand tour is EPIC! Fantastic tour and a great character. Highly recommended!. Even if the rooms are for 10 or 12 people, they are very big and each bed has a small wardrobe assigned where you can put your things. The hotel offers every kind of facility, from laundry rooms, to leisure rooms and different tipes of restaurants are at a walking distance. The metro is just 2 minutes walk from the hostel and Time Square is reachable in 15 minutes. The hotel also offers a various program of event to chose between at a very cheap price. The staff were amazing. Anthony was a night manager I think, and he was exceptional. The whole experience was amazing. I will definitely be going back there again. Location was brilliant, easy to get to and from downtown, Facilities were amazing, and the friendships that I made whilst staying there have been amazing. I will always carry them with me. Totally reccommend this place to anyone travelling alone (or even if you're with a friend or two). More than "hostel", I would rather name it "Hotel with shared rooms". Clean, in a convenient position (next to central park and very close to a subway station). It's clean and cheap (considering the NYC standard prices). They organize nice tours and activities for free or very few dollars. As in any other hostel, you should be lucky with the roommates (my first night was awful), but this has nothing to do with the quality of the hostel itself. I loved the size of the facilities, plenty of showers, toilets, big spacious kitchen. Wonderful design. The staff was super nice. I work for a hi hostel in Iceland and was really happy to see how things were run over there and that your policies match with ours. I hope someday I'll meet staff from your hostel at Reykjavik City Hostel so I can return the kindness shown to me and my mother during our stay. :). This hostile was perfect for me and a friend who needed to just have a place to rest our heads and shower the next morning for an adventure exploring NYC!! We arrived about 10:30pm and left the next morning by 6:30am. We didn't spend a whole lot of time there, but we where very satisfied with our short stay there and cost! I would definitely stay again!! Thanks. Friendly staff, good service, provide a lot of information about what to do, helped to arrange transfers and organize activities. The bar has reasonably-priced food, it's easy to meet people in the common areas. The location is great - easy access to downtown Manhattan. Good internet access, shower facilities and hair dryer available. Very good value for money!. A really nice way to meet people, a clean bathroom with warm showers, an area to buy food that isn't too expensive, and most of all: Wifi everywhere. And it's also great to be close to Central Park. If you like walking you can easily walk every morning for one hour through it to get to the theater district and more touristic places. I was surprised how clean the bathrooms where and they looked very recently remodeled! Lots of hot water! An amazing caffe downstairs which had sandwiches really coffee, loads of flavored of tea and fresh juice, the best caffe I've ever seen in a hostel! Staff where very friendly, would help you any way they could!. Daily activities and nightlife arranged, very good if your a solo traveller, great diversity of people. Really clean new showers and toilets and a fantastic café downstairs, pool table, table tennis and a theatre for movies make it a great environment to chill whilst recovering from a hangover. The employees were very helpful and friendly. The ladies bathroom and shower was cleaned every day, which is especially important considering the number of women. Linens were clean. The cafe offered a variety of nutritious foods and beverages at a good price, especially for NYC. The hostel it's awesome. Nearby restaurantes, bars, subway and bus stop, its eaasy to go everywhere and you have everything you need in walk distance. Clean, organizade and with people that really love to work there, I wouldn't recomend anything else.!. Really, everything is perfect here, close to the subway 24/7. Good place, conserved. Good and vary kind of people (all parts of world). Several options inside the hotel. Good place to eat inside the hotel, with fair price and hot sandwish. Clean bath/restrooms. Enough showers (always available when I've needed). My stay was great there weren't many in the dorm @ the time, the guest were friendly as well as the staff.I Was given a bottom bunk once the check in person realized I was just a tab bit older than a teen.( Smile) I really appreciated her kindness. Very social place, helpful staff, good location and facilities. There was always something on - such as tours, comedy and live music at the hostel etc, so the place had a great atmosphere. Deluxe dorms are nice - just 4 beds. Cleanliness, location, amazing kitchen, fast wifi internet... They have a really good structure there, the better one I've seen in a hostel before. The air conditioning is noisy, can keep you awake at night....(still everything else is so perfect ) not being able to book more nights!!! (Because they were full up...). Dumbass kids running around making noise. But this is of no fault of the hostel. Nothing, great stay. Elevators were really slow and there was only one. I booked the room back in Feb, got the confirmation through from the hostel about 3 weeks before I was due to check in (which was in Oct) and was told that my reservation was split so I had to switch rooms for my last 2 nights. Kept losing the wifi after leaving the room to go for breakfast in the canteen. All the facilities that the hostel offers are extra charge and are not really cheap if compared with the rest. The only thing that bothered me was the air conditioning in the room. It was so loud that it was hard to sleep. If we turned it off it was waaay too warm and stuffy in the dorm room. Nothing! So, we have to wait a few minutes for the elevator, but ok! We have the stairs too :)). Didn't take the time to pick out flaws, I liked it there and hope it always stays as a safe place to crash!. The bathrooms could get cleaned more often, especially the shower drains. There should be some kind of "tidiness rules" for the bedrooms to make sure that the girls (I stayed in girls only dorms) dont spread their belongings all over the floor and make it difficult for people to walk around. We had a problem with the heater in our room (too noisy and started blowing cold air during the night), but except for that it was actually pretty great. It was a bit pricey for a hostel, they had more than one school trip of 16 year olds staying there when we were there which I thought was ridiculous, i can understand they need to fill the place but its a hostel! But it didn't put me of the place just wouldn't have under age people jumping on their beds when there are people paying to either travel hard or have a good time without kids running around!. only in our room seemed to be a problem with the air conditioning so it was warm and stuffy in our room for many days (only really a problem though if you spent all day in your hostel room. I stayed in a room with ten bunks. The temperature control in the room was not good. The building is rather old with very high ceilings, so the air conditioner did not cool well at all. We did open the windows for better air circulation. Outside temps were moderate, so while the room temp was a bit steamy, it was tolerable; however, that might not have been the case in the middle of the summer or winter. I wanted to stay here for 2 more nights, but it's so popular, it was fully booked. Well, not the hostel's fault though :d. Wireless was not working. There was a problem when I arrived and, simply, stood this way for 3 days. It's a shame, considering all people far from home trying to keep in touch. The 12 bed dorm was too much for me (too many people coming in and out at all hours) so I switched to a 6 bed dorm. One thing that was strange was the floors seemed to be thin and bouncy, so whenever people came into the room I could hear them a lot. Pretty minor quibble though. I thought it was a little strange the 12 bed dorms didn't come with breakfast included, while the 6 bed dorm did. Truly do not have a thing to put here. Just didn't sleep well because people went back at different times so it was noisy actually. A little too far from the city centre unless you want to use the subway to bet back and forth. You might want to remember ear plugs and a sleeping mask for the nights otherwise can be difficult to get a good nights rest. Beds are very noisy, bring your earplugs!!. Compared to others HI hostels, it's very expensive; compared to NYC, it's not. That's not a party hostel, keep in mind! You'll see bored people seated in the lobby in their internet devices waiting for some fun... The public telephone was not working. For those people who do not have a cellphone,it would have been nice to have had a public pay phone that was in good repair. Also had so problems fing the restrooms. But I never had to wait for a stall or a shower. Worked like clockwork. Numbers of uncontrolled school groups! particulely at night! Surely each room should have an adult in?No way to watch world news. The fact that you sometimes a room full of people sleeping earlier than you do and you have to tip toe around with minimum lighting to get around to your bed, and on the other hand other room members not doing so and disturbing your sleep... I thought the price of a dorm bed was a lot. No provision for breakfast, the canteen/cafeteria is a little expensive for an hostel. There are very few restrooms for the number of rooms.. It would have been nice to have an option to include breakfast. The power outlets are not enough for all the guests. Since I never been in a hostel didn't know we going to share a room with different people. Breakfast is missing. The bad air condition in a 12 people economie room. Could not open windows wide enough, it was a bit stinky in the room. Nothing really unpleasant, but I was expecting more considering information about the hostel in general. For instance, I only found out that there is a nice area with a kind of kitchen near the lockers on the last day. Of course that I should've looked up for more info previously, but upon checkin they could've told me. It's expensive, but I don't think it comes much cheaper in New York anyway. The wifi was unreliable. The staff is not to much attentive. They don´t give to much information to the tourists. just that theWIFI became very slow - possibly a problem due to rainy weather. the elevator is haunted!. Room 118 only 4 plugs but 8 guests. Also no bed light which is a lil uncomfortable at night when another guests coming in the room. I think that 10 people are too much in one room. my opinion is that there should be a max 5 people in a room.
