Great location in central York, also one of the only hotels that allow one-night only booknigs. The rooms were lovely, great bathrooms all newly refurbished and airy. I left my sat-nav on show in my car, they even phoned me while I was out to let me know and then went to my room found my car keys and got it out for me! Would definitely stay here again. This is the second time we have stayed at Hotel 53. Its location is excellent, close to all the local amenities and attractions. The hotel staff are extremely helpful. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The food is very good and I would really recommend this hotel.

Very quiet in the room despite there being a lot of guests, there was no noise in the corridors. I had booked this hotel as I was taking my boyfriend for his birthday, the hotel was close to all amenties, the staff were very friendly, the room was immaculate and all in all I would return to stay there again.very chic, loved decor throughout, breakfast very good, good powerful shower, great location...wetherspoons across the road and a stone throw away from town centre (shoppers paradise) also restuarants/bars etc. The check in was one of the best, at first glance the staff make sure you feel at home, the entrance is a splendid first sight, all the staff from reception through to the cleaning of the rooms was first class. i thought everything was great the staff were fantastic very friendly and helpfull the hotel itself was spotless an ideal location because in the centre is choked with car fumes but a fantastic city. site was central just a 5 min walk to centre of town. Can see all the attractions within walking distance , no need to use your car. This may have been an oversight on my part but just make sure you book breakfast if you want it. Only one thing, there was only one vegetarian meal for the main course and if you didn't like lasagne that was it!. freezing cold tiles on bathroom floor, no parking facilities... had additional charge by hotel to park in designated area across the road. Only one point, the reason for our stay was a romantic Valentine weekend to relax and take in the city sights, my partner is a vegetarian and the selection was very very poor in fact the selection was one!!!. Would have liked a bath as well as a shower within the room. Could do with a shower tray to put soap/ shampoo on, but not essential.The shower in my room was average but in my mother's room it was fine. They could definitely do with another lift though!. The wireless broadband signal was very poor and kept dropping out and there was a lot of noise in the street outside at around 2-2.30 in the morning, not the hotel's fault but it did wake me.Buffet breakfast; food could have been hotter. yes but only just to pick fault the mirror in the room was a bit cramped to the wall but thats all sorry. No bath, shower only. Bed was a bit small, but was a standard double so can't complain. Only had 1 thing I could honestly say that I did not like was breakfasthad been stood and was cold. The price of the room should include breakfast. car park charges.

- Take the A1036 towards York city centre.
- Pass the racecourse on the right and travel up the Mount and along Blossom Street towards Micklegate Bar.
- Turn right at the traffic lights into Nunnery Lane.
- Bear left over Skeldergate Bridge and over the roundabout.
- Take the 1st left after the roundabout into Piccadilly.
- Hotel 53 is on the right.

Directions from the South:
- Travel north on the M1.
- At junction 32 take the M19 link to the A1 north.
- At junction 2 take the A1 north.
- Continue until the sign marked York A64 and follow directions as above.

Directions from the East:
- Take the A1079 Hull Road and through to Walmgate Bar.
- Turn left into Hope Street and cross into Lead Mill Lane.
- Turn right into Piccadilly.

Directions from Selby:
- Take the A19 Fulford Road and travel along Fishergate.
- Take the one way system to the roundabout.
- Go right round the roundabout and take 1st left after it into Piccadilly.

Directions from York train station:
- Turn left out of station towards the Minster.
- Take the right hand lane and cross straight under arch into Rougier Street.
- Turn left into Micklegate and cross Ouse Bridge.
