The property is housed in a refurbished Victorian rectory dating back to the late 1800s, close to York's many attractions. The Shambles, an historic cobbled street with a variety of cafés, bars and restaurants, is less than 5 minutes’ walk away. York Minster, the Grand Opera House, Castle Museum, Clifford's Tower, Barbican Events Centre and Merchant Adventurer's Hall can also be found nearby. York Rail Station is less than 1 mile away.

The staff were fantastic and couldn't do anymore to help us. The hotel is now under refurbishment, so we are looking forward to going back their in the near future. The breakfast was lovley. A very pleasant stay. the fact that there was parking was really good and the staff were very friendly and nice. it was good value for money as it is right in the city center.Excellent location, close to all amenities, good service, excellent food, very comfortable room, hot water on demand, very friendly and helpful staff.

One young man went out of his way to be of service when we asked him for information about visiting a local attraction.The location of St Deny's was second to none, and all made more perfect that the hotel had on site car parking. The hotel is within easy walking distance of a good range of pubs and restaurants although it is a fair way from the Railway Station (it suggests that it is close, it isn't!). very friendly and helpful staff- the breakfast was awsome.They went out of thier way getting directions for us. The fact that the hotel was near to the centre of York and the breakfast was excellent. The room was very nice and large. There was a great spa tub in the potty. Central location and lovely breakfast. location to town centre is great. staff were attentive and helpful. pleasent and courteous staff. no nothing will definately be coming again. took two people with us and was dissapointed to see wallpaper hanging off the wall. The only problem we had was that the radiator in the bathroom was not working. However, as soon as we mentioned this, supplementary heating was found in minutes. be nice to have a lounge to sit and read or watch t.v apart from the bar but we were out all the time so didnt bother us. Our room had a cracked window which clattered when the wind hit it. bar had ran out of drinks! limited availability. The room was extremely cold and had a big crack in the window. No heating in the bathroom which would not normally bother me but with temperatures at -4 this needs to be looked at. Hotel needs modernising but I was told that it due to have a refurb. It was clear that some renovations were in progress but when I pointedout one or two things that needed dealing with the manager was gratefuland said they would be dealt with asap.parking on site was limited. The hotel was in need of some decorating and refurbishment. I was given to believe that this is also going to be attended to. It was handy to have a car park but parking was very tight.The bathroom floor was not quite as tidy as it could be. I had no control of the heating in the room as the radiators had controls removed.The heating was on full blast! Phew!. wobbly loo seat. The room wasn't warm, when the curtains were open it was pretty cold. It was quite small for a double. The plain glass in the bathroom window meant that you had to keep the curtains closed, at least that kept the draughts out!. It did seem a little run down.There was difficulty finding people to ask advice and to pay for the room. Also it was difficult to get the car out of the car park because other people had parked and blocked us in.I don't know if it was my fault but I turned right when I came out of the car park as I had not seen a sign to say the road was one way. The hotel was a bit dated, but this is a minor point.The Hotel was billeed as a 4 star I would say a 2 star as there were some repares needed and up dating neeeded so there was some disapointment. toilet seat was broken. poor parking facilities meant if you moved your vehicle there was probably no space to return to.

Travelling information

Whichever direction you approach York from, you will arrive at the outer ring road. Take the shortest circuit to the York-Hull a1079 junction. Take the exit sign posted York/Hull a1079 and drive along this road for 2.4miles until you come to the traffic lights at the old bar walls. At the lights, take the centre lane and follow the traffic through the bar walls on to Walmgate. 500 yards along Walmgate you will have to turn left on the one way system, you will then see the hotel opposite the church.
