We wanted a value-for-money place where we could arrive late and this was perfect. We had a double and 2 single rooms (allowing our grown-up sons not to share) for the same price as the budget chains with good facilities. Sleeping in the annex we were able to park outside the rooms. Dining room closed before we arrived, but we were given the number of a local pizzeria which would deliver to the hotel - sorted!.
all reviews » Staff really friendly and helpful. Happy to arrange for me to have meals in room due to having my spaniel along, and even supplying a snack for said dog! When I was delayed due to poor weather, staff waited up for my arrival and gave me a lovely warm welcome at the end of a difficult trip. Basically, make me feel as if I'm visiting with friends. Very friendly and accomodating staff. We brought our little dog with us and the annex rooms were just perfect for this. Eating out would have proved difficult for us because we had our dog with us but the staff were very helpful and let us take food from the restaurant back to our room. The food was pretty good also!. Staff were very welcoming and very helpful radiator wouldn't work when first arrived staff gave us plug in heater and radiator did work once looked at. Breakfast was lovely and staff again very welcoming. Would recommend this hotel. My wife and I thought it was a very friendly place the staff and other guests were easy to talk to. I would recommend it to other people if they wanted to stay in that area. I would like to say thank you personally myself . Excellent value. A friendly welcome, comfortable room and really good breakfast. Overall this was really good value for money and we would stay here again. I stayed over after a christening at Solway Lodge. The buffet was excellent with a good variety, the room was spotless and the bed was very comfortable. Close to the motorway yet in a quiet town. Hot breakfast. Room stayed in glass shelf above washhand basin unsteady sloped forward and appeared to any moment fall off and crash into basin.small point but valid. Wish I could have stayed longer (which is not strictly what this box is about, but I could find nothing to fault with Solway Lodge, so I will instead place criticism with my own travel plans!). This might be because it was sunday/ bank hol but the couple of times i went to the reception desk there was no one there to greet me. This resulted in me having to leave the key behind the desk in reception at check out and leave without saying thank you for being so accommodating. Good suggestion might be a bell to ring for attention?. I was told a few days before the stay that there were no twin rooms ( I shared a double my son), but was speaking to a couple who had booked the night before and was told there were no double rooms and they had to take a twin. It would have suited both parties better if the rooms were swapped. Nothing. There was no down-side at all. current building work going on not a problem for me as area inside was covered,a lot of noise from boiler or central heating during the day,but at night all was quiet. Not disliked but points for pondering. Shower on small side. No ladies hygiene bags. Door to ensuite did not lock. People smoking just outside the entrance. Noisy door just outside bedroom when closing. Booked a double, but we were given a twin room. Room 19 twin beds - no chair and very old tiny telly Electric shower. There was nothing we didn't like. Nothing. Nothing to dislike. no heating in the rooms, was radiators but didnt seem to work?, would have liked porridge for breakfast seeing as we were in scotland maybe even haggis,. Bathroom could do with updating, ie electric/power shower and extractor fan would be welcome additions. Shower wasn't very powerful or stable in temperature. bed a bit uncumfy. No internet even though this is advertised. Nothing. breakfast wa a bit disorginised coffiee needs to be out for one to help them selves that would take a bit of presour of the watereiss alls o juces and may be a toster. On booking we requested a bath however when getting to room there was no bath. Nothing major. Nothing. room not available as booked. got twin instead of double, but reduced price. couldn't lock bedroom door when inside, so propped luggage against door radiator behind one bed under window and covered by curtains, heating ineffective could do with a redecorate. only think we would have liked better coffee and more toast at breakfast time. There was no fruit of any sort except fruit juice. room on the small side a bit cramped. We booked a family room and it was very small. We barely had a place to put our luggage and movement was very restricted. Wifi only in the bar area, none in the rooms. nothing really. No fixed aerial in the room only a portable aerial so i had to keep moving it for a signal. Shower only worked on cold, turn to hot/warm and stopped. Bathroom door sticking. Toilet flush not working correctly. Nobody on reception in the morning to discuss issues. On arrival there was no Meyerbeer of staff at reception. once someone did arrive no apology, we weren't asked about our needs and on departure there was no one to hand keys back to.
