The staff were very friendly, the room was very clean and comfortable and very good value for money. I also liked the fact that the hotel was quiet at night so was easy to get a good nights sleep. The hotel staff were clearly understaffed however they were always verypolite and friendly to us.The beautiful grounds and drinks in the bar area.The evening meal was excellent.

The Hotel provided everything for our requirements and the grounds were really nice. The food was excellent. All my expectations were met as we celebrated our Golden Wedding having eloped and married at Gretna 50 years ago.Nothing too much trouble for the staff, even let us in our rooms earlywithout chargeing extra super room spotless. The food was excellent very freindly hotel. Gretna Hall made my wedding day special. Excellent room. The food.A very relaxing and warm hotel, with beautiful gardens, this was our second visit and will definatley return again. Clean, simple room. Good breakfast - value for money. Overall layout of hotel. it had a very old fashioned feel about it, however it had modern aspects about it.Interesting building with large grounds, great breakfast, relaxing atmosphere. the obliging staff - nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was very nice. We enjoyed the ceildh. quality of the food. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good size rooms.Good select on menu.it was very convenient for the wedding venue. Historical ambience and finding that the room was a suite with comfortable three piece - hotel rooms usually lack comfortable chairs . The open fire in the lounge was a joy, and the higgledy-piggledy layout of the reception, bar and lounge were deeply quixotic but nonetheless enjoyable for all that.. We were thier for a special occasion (parents 40th anniversary) and the hotel staff helped us to decorate a table for dinner etc to make things more special.The room itself was reasonable but very small however the rest of thehotel was in a worn state. Could do with being updated/refurbished. Such a wonderful historic building shame about the ripped wallpaper,holdes in the carpers and peeling paint. The constant traffic noise from the M74 is a little anoying. Perhaps the check in time is a little late at 3pm. Lots of people waiting around at times to get in to their rooms.As they learned of our special day we were treated extra special and made to feel very welcome as old friends rather than guests. Car park got over full which was difficult but not impossible. Beds were hard, Bar service was very slow. The bar closed early. Looked a little worn but added to the character. maybe in need of redecoration, dining room ceiling needs painting just little bits have got tatty over the years. Bathroom a little tired, grouting etc.. they was only 4 channels on the television and these were of very poor quality. The bedroon was quite small. did not seem to have enough dining room staff considering they were trying to cope with coach parties,weddings and ordinary guests.Outside area dotted with cigarette ends.Corridor carpets in need ofreplacement. Very close to Motorway-can be noisy. the hotel wasa bit shabby in parts especially the stair carpets they were very worn and dangerous. Bathroom outdated - shower impossible to adjust between scalding or freezing . To be fair there was a prominent notice saying 'the water is very hot' !. The hotle itself was very shabby, worn out carpets throughout the hotel. The decor was in dire need of refreshing. The seating in the bar/lounge area were worn and torn, overall the hotel was very disappointing.Yes the noise from the motorway was awful and I couldnt sleep because of it also the window would not close sufficiently and the main rooms and corridors in the hotel were shabby and in need of refurbishment,. The bar area was very cold!. Squeaky bed springs and very cold bathroom. Room was very, very small but okay for staying just the one night. The carpets where worn throughout the hotel corridors and it could do with a lick of paint in some areas, the bathroom tile grout was slightly mouldy, also the toilet brush was not clean.cost and quality of evening meal was very poor, needs a revamp. The hotel was a bit shabby, carpets, furniture, etc. in need of renewal.I felt the greeting on arrival was not the warmest l have received. The carpets throughout the hotel were beginning to look very tired. Food was below average, poor quality for the cost. Missed breakfast due to reception failing to mention times and there was no information in the rooms re times.Reception staff and bar staff not particularly friendly. Bar understaffed. Poor standard of cleanliness and tidiness of downstairs ladies cloakroom during the evening.. Rooms a bit shabby and upstairs carpet very threadbare. Furnishings. The hotel needs redecorating.We felt that the staff could have been a litttle more pleasant in the way that they spoke to us and other guests. Twin beds.Room was very small.The cooked breakfast was very poor. the hotel was tatty carpets were worn and with holes the holes in some plases were coversd with black tape. chairs were ripped with padding comimg out room was dusty and the windows had thick cobwebs around them. The food was not good. the dinning room was like a "butlins camp. The hotel could do with being upgraded carpets,decor. room very badic. We had no hot water on the Saturday from mid afternoon untill early evening. Although the plumer was called to fix the problem we had to go to a wedding and had to use a family members room to shower and change. The hotel made little effort to eleviate the situation. Any food order took a minimum of 40 mins to arrive as the staffing levels seem to be too low especially on Saturday. Pictures on web werent true reflection on the hotel/room - hotel looking very tired . Hotel badly in need of renovation. The carpets and furnishings are in a shocking state: years of under-investment. Only 4 TV channels. Bed extraordinarily hard and lumpy. Room ceiling light wasn't working. The lighting in our room was not working effectivley as two bulbs were blown, our shower was not working correctly therefore we could only have cold showers, for dinner we ordered six different starters only to be told that the kitchen had run out of two of them.
