The Effingham was beautiful and spacious -- large room overlooking beautiful grounds, like a country estate. The regular-size bus with luggage racks was excellent to transport us from the Gatwick Train Station and back to the Gatwick Airport next morning for only 2.50 pounds per person per trip. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. Excellent gym and pool. Helpful porters with bags.

The hotel is spotlessly clean, the staff are attentive and very pleasant, nothing is too much trouble. There is no extra charge for room service. The Hotel is always comfortable and clean, and there is always a good atmosphere in the sports bar. Staff are always happy to help.The staff were fantastic, very friendly and made us (a small family) feel very welcome. All the staff were charming which made our stay really enjoyable.Peaceful and convenient to airport/facilities. Leisure facilities excellent. swimming, eating in sports bar. We were stuck out the back of the kitchen with all the noise that entails, it also seemed that the air con units were right outside our window.The shower was absolutely rubbish. Doors slammed shut in the corridors, which woke me in the early hours of the morning. Parking difficult during weddings/parties etc. We asked for an early check in due to having a wedding to attend and phoned up again the night before to confirm this but was then told there were no rooms available for early check in when we got there, therefore no where to change! This should not have ben promised to us if it was not a definate. The hotel needs some redecorating. The corridors need a lick of paint as they are looking old and shabby, and maybe new carpets? I stayed in the Connoisseur room and I thought it was rather small and not very well lit - a little below par in my opinion.Pool rather chilly and jacuzzi out of order still. After 22:30hrs... 10:30.p.m. kitchen closed and there is no food, ofcorse you can order it in a room with a roomservice,but choice is not very large and the prace ... ? .. :). No. poor bar area. poor location. direct contact with hotel was poor - they lost my meal booking!. Only open bar understaffed making exessive waiting times to be served. Decor/furniture needs updating. Since there is no air conditioning , screens on the patio doors so thatwe could leave them open when the room got stuffy would be a big plus. room need refurbisment. There was some difficulty in the restaurant when bad weather caused flight delays. The hotel is quite dated. Needs a little bit of a makeover.Hotel quite shabby. Had one meal in restaurant - service very slow, onepersons starter not good (ham hock terrine which would have been betternamed gristle terrine) and unfortunately the steak ordered medium torare turned up so well done it could have soled shoes. Restaurantmanager claimed no steaks left but they continued serving several otherpeople who ordered after that with steaks. Restaurant, don't go!. i have stayed at this hotel before, but unfortunetly this time was not a good experiance. the room was way to hot all night, the food wasnt good, the shower broke in my hand, and we got sent to the wrong room first off!!. Room too hot. Overflow hole in bathroom sink was filthy. run down. Service in the sports bar was terrible, both nights I had to wait over an hour to get my food delivered.Wrong room type, empty mini bar and noisey - Moved room upon complaint, probably will not stay here again and frequently in area. No air conditioned room. Poor restaurant.
