Situated in rural Essex, The Windmill Inn is just 10 minutes' drive from Braintree and Chelmsford. With a secluded garden, relaxed bar, and a restaurant, this traditional inn is also just a 15-minute journey from Stansted Airport.
Each comfortably furnished room is decorated in a farmhouse style. The rooms are situated in within the original 'roundhouse' base of the windmill. The others are in the stable block and were built using the existing 19th century handmade bricks.
The rooms include cereals, fresh fruit, and biscuits for breakfast. With prior request, full English breakfast is available for an additional charge. Guests can enjoy home-cooked meals in The Windmill Inn's restaurant. Free Wi-Fi is available in both the restaurant and bar areas.
Close to the inn is The Essex Way, a popular footpath that runs from Epping to Harwich.

What people say
We were made extremely welcome. I had asked a question on the booking form, which was replied to immediately, which gave me peace of mind. The room was comfortable, and clean. A supply of fruit was placed in the room, complete with cereal and fresh milk, and tea coffee etc, We were advised that a cooked breakfast could be served the next morning providing we informed staff that evening. Breakfast was served from 10.am on the Sunday, We thought that we would have to skip breakfast, as we had . all reviews »
The accommodation in the windmill itself is really quirky although if you are tall the height of the ceiling in the bathroom might be an issue and you would be better requesting a room in the old stable block.
The continental breakfast The Windmill Inn offers is lovely; two croissants each, one plain and one fruit, with plenty of butter and choice of jams, fresh fruit, fruit juice, and lots of tea, coffee and fresh milk. We were able to have breakfast in bed which was a real treat!
Our accommo.
It was brilliant to stay there very nice place, staff where very friendly we simply everything what we wants. Plus food was amazing. If we will be looking for a hotel next time I won't need think about it and will come back there again.
I liked the quaintness of the round room. Facilites were good. The
breakfast already in the room was a fab idea as you could leave as early
as you wished without disturbing the owners. Plenty of tea and coffee.
the staff where really friendly and a great atmosphere. the room was clean the bed and bedding was clean and comfy. didnt eat there but the menue had quite a good range of dishes, and what i saw looked nice.
Very friendly, made to feel welcome, great facilities in the room (fridge etc) and complimentary fruit and soft drinks. Set in a great location next to The Essex Way.

Interesting rooms in the old Windmill itself. Elaine very helpful and pleasant. Very good value evening meal in the bar.
friendliness of staff, size of room, bathroom, shower, fridge in room with water, juice and milk, books in drawer.
Right next to the pub, a fridge with fresh milk and water. fruit in a bowl and breakfast cereal and croissants.
Good value for money,
Building needs some TLC, but nice location, warm reception and good food.
We had an enjoyable time and was able to relax.
convenient location to the Essex countryside.
Friendly and open staff.
Food, beer'ambaince.
Freindly atmosphere, food was good, location idea for the countryside. Good value fro money as it is difficult to find accommodation at reasonable price in this area.
Fresh milk and choice of cereals
Quantity of tea and coffee
Friendly staff.
A very friendly welcome.
Easily accessible to Chelmsford.

I had a lovely time here at the windmill inn the staff were lovely the room was gorgeous and homely the food was amazing comfort pub food the breakfast of cereal and fruit in my room was great as I could eat breakfast in my pjs am without having to get up and go places and the area was beautiful and I took my dog for a great 5 mile walk! Loved the whole experience.
The staff were firendly and helpful. The meals were very good value for money.

Easy booking, reasonable price and position.
food.
Leaving.
Could not find any faults at all.
Nothing not to like about our stay at The Windmill Motor Inn.
The fruit being left out better left in the fridge.
N/A.
Nothing.
Bins hadn't been emptied from the guests before but that wasn't a big deal.
Thin walls.
fairly basic standard, would benefit from updating.
Toilet not flushing.
Property need some TLC.
Carpet quality
Shower pressure
Tatty toilet seat
Toilet seemed to leak or not flush properly.
Would have liked the room to be cleared of insects before we arrived!!.
Rooms need modernising, felt a bit dirty and dated. The only thing was that I was cold but this was because they forgot to put the hearing on in my room before i arrived and they did apologies but it wasn't until early hours of the morning that I started to warm up.
.
Some to the room facilities were "tired" e..g the toilet ddn't flush properly.
The condtions were advertised as including continental breakfast. Although there were cereals in the room, I was not offered a continental breakfast. The impression was I would need to pay for any breakfast other than the cereaks that were in the room. This was deceiving as I booked the venue, because it included a proper beakfast.
Room was grubby and on arrival extremely cold (window wide open to air room, I suppose)
Fresh fruit wasn't!.
This was booked for a work colleague and was assumed to be a little
better than the normal chain hotels. Not the case. Room was small,
facilities tired, he witnessed the 'clean' towels being taken
from the patio floor straight to his room and saw the barstaff
extract a fly from another customer's beer! Not recommend and
will not use again.
mould in/on shower/bathroom tiles.
No mobile reception.
No wifi in rooms.
Food very average.
Pub was cold I have never heard such meaningless chit that coming out of the mouths of the patrons. I know where al Murray gets his material from.
Didn't really want to take shoes off in the room for fear of what i would tread in.
Breakfast.....your joking.....bowl of cereal.
Oh and the was noisy.
Normally stay in larger hotel.....i will never stay anywhere like this on again wished i had of driven the 3hours home.
