What people say
Staff is incomparable, they are very good at English (dislike the Spanish), friendly and helpful (without invading my privacy). Juan, the owner, is a friend from the first sight. Room is very quiet and peaceful, small but everything is tasteful (colors, locations, lights, sizes). Location is in the heart of Madrid exactly 4 minutes far from a major Metro station and a shopping district. A++ hotel. all reviews »
the staff is very very helpful and friendly and speak english. the rooms while small are comfortable. the shower is very nice. they have a free computer with internet onsite. other travelor's have left books and magazines to read. it is close to several metros and within walking distance to the museums. the price is reasonable and our room was quiet. The rooms were very funky, the shower was awesome with 3 different functions like a spray mist and square overhead thing, there was cool lighting to create different atmospheres in the room. The location was great and Juan was very helpful, welcoming and friendly, with good suggestions for good food, the best churros etc. The room was very nice and clean and the staff very friendly and helpful . The location of the hotel was perfect (near metro Callao and Gran Via) . Also , in the hotel works a Greek guy , Giorgos !! He was very helpful and he explained us everthing about Madrid , where to eat , where to go etc etc ...the location and friendliness of the staff. there were good facilties and it was very state of the art/modern to which i was very suprised. quite luxurious for a hostal. i travel to madrid every summer working with pueblo ingles programme teahing english and i would deffinatley recommend this hostal. Everything. Do not be put off by the outside of the building, The hotel, the attention from the staff and the location are excellent. Probablyone of the best value for money on our trip.I Would not hesitate to staythere again. We loved the quirky building, the bright, modern and cheery interiors, the little touch of Spain in each room, the warm friendliness of the English speaking staff, their suggestions and the location of the hostal. I loved the staff - friendly, courteous, helpful. Room was comfortable, quiet, clean. Great location!. very nice people there; city center, walking distance to most sites. Hotel staff are very helpful and honest. Nice rooms to stay..Excellent hospitality, attention to detail, cleanliness. how informative the staff were and their friendliness. Friendly staff nice room with balcony. The staff is terrific. The rooms are quite small but the design is really nicely done and very modern. Located near many attractions which made it very convenient. I would highly recommend this hotel.the staff were exceptionaly friendly, helpful and welcoming, making us feel very at home. The location is also idel for exploring Madrid, being right in the centre of the city. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. They recommended places to visit, and rang ahead to restuarants for us to check availability.Bright, clean and fun rooms. Attentive staff. Free internet access andcommon room. Great prices on food and drinks in the vending machines. The staff is very nice. Good location. Although it has a small single bedroom, it is very cosy and confortable. What a relief to find that the rooms were scrupulously clean and the staff incredibly friendly and welcoming. Even though the room was not very big, it was perfectly clean and matress and pillow were very comfortable. The interior has been designed with an eye for detail: pretty and practical. One suggestion for the interior design: if the door to the shower would open in the opposite direction, it would create a room divider for more privacy. The staff (especially George, Ivo and the owner) were among the friendliest and most helpful we have ever come across in a hotel anywhere in Europe! If only for that, the hotel is worth staying at. The rooms seemed completely new, were nicely decorated (each room is apparently different) and very clean. Convenient location for town centre ,cleanliness of hotel , bright and cheerful room decoration, friendliness of staff and comfort.Value for money and general quietness of room. The staff being multi-lingual were able to help all their guests with helpful advice. the neighborhood is a bit funky. stay off the side streets though and it is not an issue. it is not appear dangerous. The location was inhabited by vagrants however by reading the guestreviews I was already prepared for this. Could be a bit noisy, but I was there during Gay Pride weekend and the entire city was a rollicking, all-night party. I still slept fine.No view from the window. Too small window. The first floor before to the hotel is horrible. The only negative thing is the entrance!! but that actually doesn't matter!! so enjoy it. Slightly difficult to find but this was explained on the review ofthe Hostal. the location of the the room itself to close to the reception need better insulation from the reception (there is room for an extra door ). Suited for anyone with open and social mentality but less suited for people who expect to be in a hotel and behave themselves as if they are. The single room was tiny, although chic and well designed. Not a complaint, but be prepared to climb stairs as it's on the 2nd (3rd US) floor. The outside facade and walls look in poor state but the inside is very nice.Outside not well marked at ground level so a little hard to find for inexperienced traveler. Communal entry and stairway has not been renovated yet so first impression very different from clean, new accommodations upstairs in hotel. Small elevator great for luggage. The location of the hostal itself was less than charming.A number of reviewers mention the area seemed sketchy and it was hard tolocate. It was hard to locate, but I liked that it was a bit off themain road (quieter). It is located in an urban area. I didn't feel thatit was any more or less safe than the main road (Grand Via). In fact, the courtyard in front is well used by dog owners and children, creatinga safer feeling. Bathroom was small. But I'm too big.the rooms that were right opposite the reception were a bit noisy, bit that's just a note not a complaint. the area outside the hotel was a bit seedy. The building and entrence are quite old but the hostel is like an oasis. The area looks a little unsafe but we never had any concerns nor did we see anything that worried us. It would have been tricky to find if we hadn't come by taxi as the entrance is just a door beside a parmacy. Also the stairwell is very tired - very clean but needs a brush of paint which is a real contrast to the rooms and reception area. (don't let it put you off!). Sometimes the noise from the reception area travels down the hallway into the rooms. The reception area and hall have timber floors. A door between the two might eliminate this problem. The entrance to the hostal. In the single bedroom, the bathroom could have door. In the free text field for requests to the hotel, we had requested a normal double room and a twin room, but this was regretfully not taken into account and only two double rooms were available for us. This was a big disappointment. I would advise to call the hotel to double check if requests in this field are indeed taken into consideration.Any negative points (building in need of a good and serious overhaul) are by far outweighed by the helpfulness of the staff!. Small lift and outlook was slightly drab.
