I chose Alloggi Marinella principally for its convenient location near Piazza Roma and the railway station, but the Rialto and San Marco are only an interesting 20 minute walk away, and the ferries stop nearby. It's a curious little pensione, with some rooms located in a sort of "mews" behind the main building, with a separate entrance, and others located upstairs in the main building. I stayed in both and both had their charms and both were very comfortable. Perhaps stay in the main building i.

Room was small but clean with adequate storage. Free WiFi available in the lobby/breakfast area, but I managed to get it in the room as it was directly above this area. Staff a very helpful with suggestions and directions. Great place to stay, literally a stone throw from the Bus station and very close to the railway station. You'll be greeted by a very friendly staff that's gives you loads of very good information regarding Venice. For travelers who don't plan to spend precious time in a hotel this place is perfect! The place is quiet and safe. A map with clear directions should be posted on the hotel's website. It is only a few minutes away, but the jetlagged tourist gets off the bus in Piazza Roma, a large, noisy and very busy public space, and has little idea where exactly to head to. "Cross the bridge" is not helpful when ON the bridge there are 3 different ways to go. The rear courtyards could really do with some maintenance: straggly weeds and rusting tables and chairs are not an attractive look. Toiletries are very basic, I only got shampoo so you may need to buy some more. Breakfast is also basic but sufficient if you don't generally eat a lot. These are only minor things and easily outweighed by the positives. I will definately stay again. Breakfast was pitiful - packaged crackers and jam/nutella. Packaged croissants. Venice is very expensive, and I found the accommodations pricey for what was offered. At the price of $240 for standard room, expectations were higher--staff responded to glasses vs. Plastic, a bath mat, re-cleaning the room. Amenities very spare although water is provided at no cost. Quality of breakfast was disappointing, ie freshness. Only one chair in the room. Tiny shower, narrow steps going upstairs. Nothing! I loved it here. Typical Venice hotel. Can't be reached by car. Either carry the luggage from the nearest square where taxis can get to or hire a porter. hard to find it until I walk for almost 20min. the breakfast. It's too pricey given the service and facilities. Only one croissant was rationed by staff without smile on her face in the morning. No hot dish was provided and the coffee was watery. No kettle is provided and the room is small to open my luggage without hitting the wall.
