Our experience was excellent from every aspect: location, cleanliness of the rooms, staff, service. It's in a great position in the centre - not too far from anything but not at all noisy. When we looked at the write up online we were concerned that The Meininger may be a bit too basic and aimed at the young backpacker.
Whilst 'yes' a large part of the people staying were young and backpackers, we fittied in very well (We are just in our 50s !).

Everything about this hotel, from the moment you step in the front entrance is clean and tidy. It is minimal but everything you need for a comfortable stay. I stayed there with my partner and another couple and it was perfect considering we really only slept there. We stayed in the room with two single beds and a bunk and there was plenty of room. Friendly staff, a parking garage near the hotel for 15 euro's a day, wifi, the room was nice and clean, very close to metro station Botanique, a supermarket (Carrefour) next to the hotel. We didn't ate breakfast at the hotel, but bought some orange juice and croissants in the supermarket and ate them on a bench in the park next to Botanique.

The facilities are ultra modern and we found it very comfortable to stay there. It is located one street back from a main road and within reasonable walking distance to the main square. There are loads of restaurants very close to the hotel for all budgets including cheap healthy food alternatives which was nice for a change.
