  We received a warm welcome from Gail and Robert. Our suite was extremely comfortable, with every possible need provided. The bathroom was large and modern and very convenient. French doors opened from our suite onto an enormous sunny deck. The whole atmosphere in this large, lovely house was homely and very friendly. Hard to fault the property and/or proprietors in any which way, what is provided here is affordable luxury for one and all.

  To be honest, I was expecting a bit of a let-down with this place - not sure why, just a feeling I had. Possibly the name? In any case, it was completely the opposite - really happy with my stay at the Reef Resort. We had a lake-view room for less than $200 on a very busy weekend, which I thought was pretty good value. The room was modern, clean, ... was die leute sagen » comfortable and as I say, looking straight out at Lake Taupo. The heated pool and spa also added to the experience. The hosts (sorry didn't catch thei - Friendliest host over the past 11 days in NZ, surprising given it's a sizeable establishment. Beautiful private-access to lake shore which has a natural thermal brook serenely bubbling away into the lake. They had some plumbing done the night we were there, and didn't have hot water from 9pm till 7am, and in kind recompense, upgraded us to the nicest room of our trip, with stunning panoramic lakefront views. We simply didn't want to leave the room at all!
