  The area is not bad at all! There is construction, but you can tell it is an up & coming area! If you use 200 Florida ave ne you will get to the hotel no problem. As far as "sketchy" people in the area I will say this, there is a mix of people in the area & there are pan handlers all over dc, even by the White House.   It's about 3 blocks away from the Metro which made it very easy getting to all tourist attractions. It was great to have a kitchen with us. I didn't find a supermarket close by, by CVS next door had many choices for us to make sandwiches to bring with us to our tours. The front desk was very nice as well as the rest of the staff.   As a mature couple we found the Hotel to meet all of our needs. The staff were friendly, the room was large with two double beds, comfortable and clean. We had room 410 right outside the lift but with one exception it wasn't noisy. The staff was very friendly and quick to offer suggestions on what to do and see, and what was open. The housekeeping staff were amazing, cleaning my room promptly each day.
