Bar staff, waiters seemed part of a warm team enjoying their jobs. The pub/hotel is pet friendly. We had our medium sized, well-behaved dog in the bedroom, and in breakfast with us one day. The waiter helped with a bowl for leftovers/water. The hotel is in a great location overlooking the tidal Kent estuary. Good walks nearby, Leighton Moss RSPB reserve, regular train service to local stations north and south.

  We stayed in one of the cottages and it was beautiful. So clean and well maintained, just lovely. We arrived extremely late (00.10) but were greeted with a warm, friendly smile by Steve who was so attentive. Good to see a hotel supporting local real ale brewers not not just the usual 'fizz' that most hotels offer.   The rooms were of good size, and the breakfast was of a generous size. We thought we had booked for 3 nights, but turned out to be 2. Barbara was most helpful, and managed to stay the 3.   After reading some negative reviews about this hotel I was really not expecting much at all. How wrong I was. My two children (age 4 & 8) and I stayed for 1 night.
