The staff were very friendly and went way out of their way to make sure that I was happy, and knew how to get around the city. If I ever go back to Newcastle, I will be staying at Grey Street Hotel. Service, cleanliness, value, location, comfort, amenities- this hotel has it all!. location was convenient. staff were friendly and helpful. rooms were clean. food and drinks priced reasonably.

It's in a fantastic location, a few minutes walk up the road to the shopping centre, a few minutes walk down the road to the Quayside. I was upgraded to a larger room and the bed was absolutely amazing. So comfortable. The hotel is located only 5 mins from the train station and is in the middle of the city centre.The staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was large, modern and the bathroom was luxurious. We loved it. We were very tired on arrival and were pleasantly surprised by our room and the comforts that it offered.Toiletries were lovely! Staff very helpful. Bed was amazinglycomfortable. Air conditioning since the outer windows were not easily accessible for opening. Large mugs provided for tea.Clean, simple styling. I thought it a cheaper version of the Hotels du Vin. The position in the City, easy to get to the Quayside, and the shops,. It was a great location for city centre shopping and theatre visit. Could have stayed longer!. No all perfect. I liked the hotel and think three towels per room might be better for two people. I requested towels every night, which I received.Breakfast seemed a bit expensive. . ....couldnt open the window. The carpet in the room really was filthy. It's a little thing, and not quite enough to put us off, but not great. Alarm Calls failed to materialise.The hotel does not accept incoming phone calls- email has to be used.I liked the hotel alot and would definitely stay there again. The only thing that could be a drawback to elderly people or disabled persons is the maze like stair ways to get to the rooms if not on the main floors. I would just check in with the reservation desk prior to booking to make sure that accomodations are the best for anyone with any physical disability. External noise levels at night, but appreciate that this is beyond the hotel's control. i did not like the hotel pre authorising £179.00 from my bank account even though we were paying by cash, it took me a very long phone call to my bank to have that authorisation cancelled from my acc as the bank holds this money that the hotel requested for 5 days not the 2 days that the receptionist advised me on departure. but this was my only gripe about the hotel,. Whilst our room was spotlessly clean the light coloured carpet was heavily stained and needs immediate professional cleaning or replacement. The room also needs a lick of paint. This would greatly enhance the appearance of the otherwise very clean and comfortable room.The lack of enclosed wardrobe space, red wine stains on the carpet and the choice of music in the room via digital tv . too many steps even after using the lift, very difficult with big case. Bedside light not working! Should be attended to when room is made up, very inconvenient for a reader.rooms very warm but good air con unit. The layout is strange. (My bathroom was upstairs) They charge you £9.95 per day for wi-fi which I think should be free, but it didn't work anyway. The cleaner did not replace all the bath products I'd used and the cream carpet was dirty.Only negative was that the carpet was stained in the room. We ordered a Continental for £9.75 or thereabouts but we did not receive any croissants or pastries because you did not have them and we ordered wholewheat toast but received white toast and no butter. There was nothing to replace these things but we still paid the full price.The carpet in the room was grubby and need to be replaced. Too late for breakfast at ten to ten! Noise from the traffic!. Too many stairs to, and in, the room I had. Double glazed windows should swing open, instead of only tipping forward, allowing access to outer windows. Sufficient lighting above mirror for shaving (lighting above head leaves face in shadow). Re positioning of shelf above sink so that head does not bang into shelf when rinsing face.Staircase to first floor is scruffy. My room number had been left off the signage, so unclear where to go on exiting the lift. Room small and carpet stained. Needs 2 armchairs and 2 bathroom shelves. Room was quite small and did not have a bath. Access to restaurant from hotel was closed in the evening (so had to go via the street for dinner) and not possible to take a drink from one to t'other - but food and service were good.the room felt a little claustrophobic as it had small windows and we were unable to open them.It seemed to lack ventilation and was quite hot and stuffy at times. The info had said 'an abundance of light' and showed large windows, was a bit disappointed with this. I have Coeliac and the menu was very limited for 4 dinners, except for the ala carte where I had a little more choice.Room was very comfortable however, the carpet was badly stained and tended to make the room look " shabby ".
