We were lucky enough to get a complimentary upgrade to a suite which was amazing. It was huge, with an amazing bath and superb views of the river Moy and all it's wildlife. The hot tub and steam room were great, really helps you to relax. We had dinner in the restaurant the first night and the food was gorgeous, really tasty and the staff were so friendly and really efficient. Overall I would recommend this hotel of pure relaxation, however Ballina itself is not great as a town....gives you an .

From the glass of bubbly at checking in to the time we said good bye we were treated like royalty. We stayed in the fabulous and very luxurious and beautifully decorated with antiques Bartra suite. The bed was very big and comfortable, and the wooden deep bath was something else. We had breakfast in our room at no extra cost which was the icing on the cake. The Ice House is a place for pure relaxation and it was a very special treat for us. We will definitely be returning and hopefully get to t. Loved the location on the river. A really different experience to wake up on the riverside with the wildlife right beside your window. Breakfast is available to your room for no extra charge. The layout of the hotel is very unique. The restaurant/bar menus are inviting. You don't feel like you're missing out on anything by staying in the hotel for food both nights. The outdoor hot-tubs were a nice bonus. Champagne on arrival. Friendly & helpful staffs. Comfortable bed. Able to rent bikes. Three little candles next to bath tub. Bathroom layout is nice. There was a problem with the hot water, they fixed it right away. The view. Complimentary breakfast in bed. Great spa, especially the Balinese massage with Elaine. Very good location right beside the sea and just 5 minute drive to the town centre and to the beach. Our room had a great view of the sea. Staff were very friendly and always helpful and we were giving a glass of champagane when we checked in which I thought was a nice touch. Great setting, extremely pleasant and helpfull staff. Use of special offers to market and keep hotel busy during these challenging times is commendable. The choice of heritage or modern river view rooms is good. Overall we had a very enjoyable 4 day break. Hotel facilities and room very comfortable and very tastefully decorated - brilliant building and views. Food was delicious and a nice menu. Staff were exceptionally welcoming on arrival and very pleasant throughout stay. Would come again!. We loved our stay at The Ice House. The view from our room was absolutely stunning, nothing felt like an imposition, and the food was fantastic. The customer service there was top notch, as were my spa treatments. We wouldn't change a thing. The finishing on the hotel isn't up to standards. It could be a little more polished but the good out weighs the bad. No swimming pool. Shared balcony. People not staying at the hotel can see you in the jacuzzi (not private enough). But these things didn't make our stay less enjoyable. Drink was expensive compared to other hotels I have stayed in. Walkway between lower floor bedrooms and the Resturant/Bar seemed to be the only storeage for bins and disused planters etc. This needs attention as it has potential to spoil an otherwise fantastic setting. Dinner menu was a little on the expensive side although the food was certainly delicious and beautifully cooked and presented. fantastic river view glass wall had fingerprints - at the sunshine that didn't look good. The only thing is that u could drive pass hotel very easily becausr sign on wall outside is quite small.....Other wise amazing spot. Nothing. Menu selection could be slightly more. Nothing in particular. Food bordering on average disappointing - Dinner was fine, Breakfast: I was disappointed to find the fruit salad (fermenting) all the fruit was way past its use by / fresh date and was Warm / over-ripe & more importantly Not stored in chilled environment which is not suitable- main breakfast plate consisted of 1 sausage/ 1 egg/ 1 piece of bacon and a teaspoon of mushrooms - quite sad looking-Restaurant staff seemed hassled . Having to leave !. The hotel lets itself down with the small things and attention to detail such as lights not working and having to put the kettle on the floor to use as it was the only socket available. Also, among other things, the blinds on the window were all frayed and unsightly. As I say only small things but they detract from the overall feel of the property. The evening bar menu was very poor. Each dish was basically made up of elements from the A la carte starters menu without coming together as complete dish. It should either be completely different from the A la carte or simply not available. breakfast coffee lukewarm and not particularly good. Should serve plain brown bread. Wireless Internet in bedrooms is unreliable. Heating in the room was broken. TV/Music System not working correctly, remote a nightmare to work. Price of the room for a suite when items where not working. Bit far from town. Over priced for what it is. Breakfast was small - one sausage & one piece of bacon. Steak was hard to chew and like something out of a supermarket package. Gnocchi was bland & tasteless and not cheap- €22 No swimming pool. Only Guinness & Heineken on draft. Had organised to have a bottle of proceco for the room but it wasn't there. However having told the receptionist when leaving gave us a discount on the wine we bought on our meal. Other then that all was lovely. nothing. unable to secure spy booking-admittedly late request. Diningroom layout. stay was not long enough. Unchanging menu was a bit limiting, especially for a 5-night stay. Dining room, while beautifully positioned on the estuary, was prone to very bright sunshine in the early evening. With no blinds, many diners were literally themselves blinded. Parking. alot of stairs. Why do you encourage people to leave the hotel in search of a cigarette machine ?. nothing. The room on the ground floor. I had requested the two rooms to be close together when I booked but they were 2 floors apart and the twin turned out to be a double when we arrived. My single room opened out on to a terrace with seemingly all the waste bins for the whole hotel beside my door! Finally, the rest of my group were Polish and weren't too impressed with the tone of the cleaners' conversation coming from some vacated rooms on our way to check out. cost far too high for this kind of hotel. Very dissappointed in this hotel. No bath in bathroom. No swimming pool. Very small portion for breakfast. I definitely would not rate this as 4*. Over priced.
